My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What a wonderful dog! Akir (his foster mom calls him Weiss - like "Wice") is a 2 year old male black & white rough coat Border Collie. Weiss is a big boy! He is a beautiful and sweet dog, and moves gracefully despite his size. He greets everyone he meets with an excited smile and fun energy. He has the most beautiful, soulful brown eyes. After a recent trip to the groomer, he is looking more handsome than ever and had a glowing report from the technician for his outstanding behavior and charming temperament.

By recommendation from his vet, Weiss takes a daily supplement for his joints with his food. However, he is VERY active and energetic!
While competitive sports like flyball and agility might not be the best fit for him, he will be a great running partner and thoroughly enjoys physical activity of any kind; he'll be a super-swimmer in the summer! Weiss loves being outdoors! His foster mom often finds him sitting outside on the patio, perfectly content to enjoy the day outside (regardless of weather conditions). He doesn't seem to have had much leash training, but he is a great walking partner, and does really well with his new walking harness.

Weiss would like to spend a little more time meeting other dogs because he can be a little timid upon first encounter, but he does have great manners and LOVES to make friends! He likes other dogs in the following order: #1 Border Collies!, #2 Any other breed, #3 Puppies, and somewhere down at the bottom of the list are his least favorite: Huskies. He will improve even further with more social introductions, and his foster mother takes him out as often as she can. Weiss seems to do well with children and will be a wonderful companion for any family. He would do best in a home where he does not have to be “contained,” as he does not enjoy being in confined spaces. He is crate trained but does not stay crated in his foster home, as he is fully housebroken.

Weiss took a day to warm up to his foster family, but his foster mom quickly learned that he can already shake and sit, and understands how to stay. He loves to play tug with his foster sister (another BC) and also likes to play fetch (or “chase” anything, including his foster sister!). He would enjoy formal obedience training, because he learns so quickly. He loves to be challenged and is so smart: a true Border Collie! He gets along very well with his foster sister and would thrive in a forever home where he could have another pet sibling. He can play for hours, but when it’s quiet time, he curls up in the corner for a snooze, so he would also be comfortable in a forever home where he is the only dog. Weiss is a wonderful dog who will be a fantastic companion in a wide variety of environments, and can't wait to meet you!
