Their adoption process

Find your new best friend. Review our available pets and take your time. We do not do same day adoptions nor first come first serve so want to make sure we have the best fit for both your family and your new furry friend. If you have any specifics you would like to know shoot us a message and we will help you narrow down the options to find the perfect match for you!

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    1. Review our adoption contract with our rules and guidelines for adoption. If you agree to the terms, complete our paper or online application
  2. Home Check
    1. Our Staff's priority is the care of the animals so please be patient. Application review and reference checks may take up to one week.
  3. Meet the Pet
    1. By appointment. This can also be step one but your application process will move faster with pre-approved review prior to meeting.

Go meet their pets

Your application process will move faster with a pre-approved review prior to meeting. We prefer appointments to schedule meet and greets because some of our animals are in foster homes and stopping by the shelter does not necessarily mean your future best friend is in that day.
Everyone in the home must be present for meet and greet as it is important all personalities are a match and devoted to the successful completion of the adoption process. If you have another dog we would prefer they meet on neutral grounds so this also helps the process move smoothly and another reason we like to schedule ahead.

More about this shelter

At ARF of MS our rescued pets stay as long as they need to in order to find a forever home. During their stay, we look to serving the whole animal with attention to their comprehensive care and medical needs and work with them on building social skills. Our no-kill shelter is typically home to over 60 cats and 240 dogs at any given time. We provide the residents a safe and happy environment while they await adoption. What can you do? Adopt from us when you’re looking for a new pet and support our no-kill model with a donation today.
