My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Notes: Winston - male/neutered - young (one and one half years of age) - Shepherd mix, possibly with a dash of husky - 48 pounds (needs to gain weight) - tri-color medium coat - one brown eye and one blue eye

This handsome guy is Winston, the latest in a series of wonderful country strays whose demeanors and personalities are loving, gentle and kind. In short: He's the kind of dog who gives rescue dogs a good name.

Winston is definitely what we call an "easy keeper." Mild but not bland, mindful of humans but not fearful, Winston reminds us of a prince who was raised as a pauper (a prince who somehow ended up at Animal Control and only had 30 minutes left before his time was up when he came to us).

When it comes to house manners, Winston's foster raves that he is completely house-trained; does not jump on the furniture like some other dogs we know (most of ours, frankly); and doesn't chew or steal.

Furthermore, he's calm, does not jump on people, does not bark (although she has heard that familiar Husky woooooo of greeting a couple of times), and is friendly and submissive to the other dogs. And, even though he enjoys playing with other dogs, he'll often loop back in the midst of play to visit with humans just to say, "Hello. What's up?"

Lest you think that Winston is too perfect to be true, we should point out that his large ears, placed on the side, rather than the top of his head, and his expressive face give him a very comical and friendly look.

However, slightly comical expressions aside, this is an eager-to-please, gentle, happy dog with no habits that need to be corrected (at least that we've seen so far). Someone is going to be very lucky to adopt him. In fact, any of us would adopt him in a heartbeat if we didn't have a zillion dogs already. Our job is to make sure that they are properly aware of the absolute perfectosplendidwonderfulness of this dog (sorry, we had to make up a new word to describe him).
