My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

1-11-012 Tank - male, vet checked, vaccinated to date inclu. Rabies, altered, dewormed, tx flea preventative, heartworm tested (-), 1yr, ~55lbs, Rottweiler.

Tank was a stray not claimed at a high kill pound where black dogs don’t stand much chance at being adopted before their time is up – no matter how nice he is.

Tank is an exuberant puppy, it is easy to tell he was loved but not trained very much. He was probably dumped because his owner got a cute puppy and didn’t bother to train him and when he grew up it wasn’t as much fun. His high energy at the moment is also due to the fact that he was cooped up in the pound with minimal people interaction (which he craves) and minimal exercise. Tank is so loveable, there are no words to explain how friendly this guy is. He is great with other dogs, no aggression what so ever over anything but because of his energy level and his bouncy, outgoing nature he tends to tick off other small, older or calmer dogs. He is too bouncy for cats and though he loves kids due to his exuberance he is too bouncy at the moment for young children, he’d likely knock over small children so no kids under 10yrs living in his home. Tank needs a big buddy like him to play with and get some energy out, he’d get along great with another young, energetic large breed in the same home or at the parks. Tank learns quickly and is learning not to jump up – no matter how excited, he knows how to sit, wait and will settle after he has had a bit of a run in the yard. He is easy to train and not the least bit stubborn, it is clear that no one bothered to take the time with him and train him. With a little practice on the basics each day and clear rules it won’t take long at all for him to be a great, well trained, easy to handle young guy. Tank IS house trained and crate trained, he likes his crate and sleeps in it at night and when left alone. Tank loves the snow too, he makes it hard to shovel the pathways he’s always just ahead of the shovel waiting for you to toss the snow at him, he also likes to try and catch snowballs or pounce on toys in the snow. This guy is so much fun, he’s cute, loveable and active. He should get at least a one hour walk and some play time in the yard each day so he can chill out in the house. Tank has the potential to be an amazing, well trained companion for someone willing to give him direction. He must go to a house with a fully fenced yard. If you are in an apartment/condo or your yard is not fully fenced yet do not apply for tank.

What do we want in an adopter for Tank? A house with a fully fenced yard is a must, patient people willing to put the time and effort in to basic training – enrolling in training classes would be ideal so let us know where you plan to take him for school! No kids under 10yrs, no cats.
