Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Lurch: Our Gentle Giant
When Cheryl saw a huge furry dog lying motionless in her yard, she assumed the worst. But as she approached him, he summoned every ounce of energy to lift his head and look at her as if pleading for help.
It seems odd to think of an 84-pound dog as starving, but Lurch is at least 20 pounds underweight, and every bone in his body is clearly visible. ( Lurch is now 102-pounds of love !!!!! )When he collapsed in Cheryl’s yard, he was simply too weak to take another step. “Even though I had to push and prod him to move him indoors, he knew I was trying to help him,” she says
Once he was strong enough to walk, it became clear that Lurch had never before been indoors; he literally walked into furniture and tripped on the steps. But within days, Lurch had learned not only to navigate his surroundings but also to sit and give his paw. “He’s extremely smart and eager to please,” says Cheryl, who adds that Lurch loves the company of her dog and wags his tail with delight whenever he sees her 4-year-old daughter.
Today, in his doggie daycare foster home, Lurch is responding to hefty doses of TLC (and lots of good food). He plays beautifully with the daycare dogs and has overcome his initial shyness. A loving home is all this sweet boy needs to find the joy he’s never known.
About our big, sweet boy:
• 1-2 year old rottie-shepherd mix; 84 pounds (needs to gain 20);
neutered and has all shots
• Gentle and affectionate; loves other dogs; seems sweet with cats too.
• Lurch is truly a gentle giant. He’s momentarily shy with new people but bonds quickly once you’ve earned his trust. He needs a loving home where he can continue to gain his strength and become the dog he was meant to be.
