My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

PLEASE NOTE: Misty needs a home with no children under 12, no large dogs, and a person home most of the day. If you don’t match all of these qualifications, please don’t apply for this puppy. Southern California adoptions only.

Misty will make the perfect companion for someone who wants a happy, mellow, affectionate shadow. She is a beautiful Papillon who, typical of the breed, does not like to be left alone. But whereas in general Papillon females are more independent and aloof than males, Misty is the exception. She will be happiest if she can be near her person as many hours of the day as possible.

Misty is 6 or 7 years old. Her early background is unknown but she was in a loving home until recently. Perhaps because of an abusive background, she is initially timid upon meeting new people and dogs, but as soon as she feels secure she is very outgoing with strangers, asking for their affection. She is fine with other dogs but would probably be most comfortable as an only dog, as her submissive qualities make her shy away from demanding her share of attention in the presence of an alpha dog. She is still timid about unfamiliar objects and noises but, again, she does adapt to them with encouragement and praise. She is not the type of dog who should ever be corrected with a loud, harsh voice, which makes her cower. She is good in the car and loves daily walks, though she tends to pull and benefits from a no-pull harness.

Misty is housebroken, spayed, and up-to-date-on shots. She isn’t the big barker that many Papillons are. Her one fault is the nervous habit of “slurping”, which is what we call licking people in excess. This can easily be corrected with positive reinforcement training.

There is one other thing and it makes Misty unique among Papillons. Some idiot docked her tail. Or, possibly, it was broken and was amputated. She has the stub that you see on Australian Shepherds. It is really very endearing and we don’t think it detracts from her beauty at all. And she wags it just like any Pap wags their tail.
