Notes: 10-11-06 We have made a commitment to take in this 5 yr. old black & white shih tzu by request of another rescue. Their adopter wants to return Stymie NKA Dennis & we were asked to help with transportation.
We have been asked to list /Dennis for adoption until transportation may be arranged in Nov. We are taking inquiries, will post more info. as obtained.
10-13 We received this info. from the owner about Dennis
"Dennis loves to chew on bones & doesn't play with any other toys, he mostly just loves to follow the other dogs around. He will take a treat out of your hand after he comes in from outside, in fact he rather expects to get one & gets very excited - he is so excited he is nervous. Dennis will not tell you when he has to go to the bathroom, but he will however not go in the house if you keep him on a schedule; every time I take him outside he will go potty. He will walk on a leash but you have to corner him in a corner, preferably in the same corner all the time, because that is where he will feel safe for you to put the leash on, sometimes he will pee a little because he is nervous, once you get the leash on him, you have to open the door, stand there, & let him run out the door, after that he will be fine outside. To go back inside, you have to lead & he will just follow behind you. He does his own thing & you have to respect that. He also loves to run around in a backyard, however he will find a "safe hiding spot" & stay there until people are out of site. Dennis will look at you if you say his name. He has also started to come up to me, but only when my other dog is jumping all over me, & let me pet him on top of his head & under his chin, you can tell he is uneasy, but he is starting to relax even to the point of sitting on his behind, but if any noise or anything pops up while he is doing this he will jump & run away. When people he isn't used to comes over, he will not move off his bed & if someone comes near his bed he runs in the other direction. When you try & pick Dennis up you have to hold him out in front of you first, because sometimes he is so excited & nervous he will potty & poop on you.
Dennis just needs a lot of patience & understanding. He will start to come around, but you have to let him decide when he wants to. He needs someone who has the time to sit with him every night & hold him & pet him so he knows you aren't going to hurt him. He also loves other dogs, if another dog is in the home, preferably a smaller one, I have noticed he doesn't really interact with larger ones, he will follow their lead. I think he would be really lonely without another dog in the home.
I want what is best for Dennis, & I don't want another adoption disruption. Please take good care of him. I love him so much. Please put this in his file for potential adoptees to read, as I think it could be helpful. Whoever decides to adopt - just please be patient with him, don't harm him.
7 Bells Note - Dennis is a puppymill dog, thus we prefer to adopt this fur-kid to someone with previous PM experience. Time & patience are the most important things needed to adopt a PM dog.
