My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bree was surrendered by her family when they were no longer able to care for her. She loves to go for walks and run around exploring the backyard at her foster home. Bree is a little timid at first, but once she feels comfortable in her surroundings she enjoys spending time with her people.

AGE: Approximately 8 or 9 years
SIZE: 29 lbs. Her adopter will need to continue to measure her food, feed at scheduled times, limit treats and providing exercise.
TEMPERAMENT: Bree is a very easy-going girl. She is very comfortable with both men and women equally. She likes to hang out in the same room near her people but isn't a lap dog or a big snuggler. She is a little timid at first until you've gained her trust and likes to hide in her "safe spot" under a bed or in her crate when she feels scared, tired, or just needs a break. She now regularly spends time with her foster family, coming out to enjoy tummy rubs and curling up by her foster mom's feet to be close to her person.
FENCE: A secure wood or chain link fence is required. Bree loves to run and explore in the backyard and needs a safe area where she can do so.
DOGS: Bree gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home, but can be bossy. She would do well with another easy-going dog, or she'd be perfectly happy being someone's one and only as well.
CATS: Unknown. There are no cats in her foster home. She reportedly did well with the cat in her previous home.
KIDS: Bree is wonderful with the kids in her foster home and lived with children previously. She is very gentle and tolerant of the two small children in her foster home (ages 4 and 6) and has also been around children ages 2 and 3.
CRATE-TRAINED: Bree is in her crate when her foster family is away from home and she goes into her crate willingly. Bree is very food motivated and has gotten into food in the pantry, so for her safety, all food and trash should be out of her reach if she’s not supervised.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes! Bree caught on immediately to the routine in her foster home.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Unsure if Bree has had any formal training, but she does respond to "sit", "shake", "lie down" and "come". She is amazing at catching food and treats in mid-air and may do well with fetching a frisbee.
LEASH MANNERS: Bree LOVES going for walks and gets so excited that she pulls at the leash and barks at people and vehicles that go by. Her foster home is currently working with Bree on her leash manners and she is improving. Her adopter will want to reinforce this.

CAR RIDES: Bree rides well in the car, although initially she’s a little nervous.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Average. Bree enjoys her quiet time under the bed or just lying on the floor near her people, and also grabs a toy now and then and will chew on it or bring it over for a game of fetch. She likes to sniff and explore outside and would love someone that enjoys going for daily walks.
BARKING: Bree typically only barks when she hears the other Shelties in her foster home start barking. She does bark at people and vehicles when on walks, however, she's currently working on her leash manners to change that.
HEALTH ISSUES: No current known health issues.
EXPERIENCED HOME: Not necessary. Bree is very easy going and is simply looking for a family to love and spend time with her.

Bree is a wonderful Sheltie who would make a great addition to any family. She is a gentle soul, terrific with children, and has the spunk and patience of a much younger dog. While she enjoys her personal space, she also likes to hang out by her people as she becomes more comfortable in her new home.

For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at http://www.mnsheltierescue.org. Bree's adoption fee is $150.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), microchipped, had a dental, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
