5-15-11: Barbi is such a brave wonderful little dog. Her slight handicap doesn't slow her down one bit! She is feeling great and RUNNING and PLAYING with her new foster buddies. It really is amazing to see her get around and aside from a little bunny hop on occasion- you would never know about the shattered and rehealed bones in her right leg. 3-4-11 Barbi is doing GREAT! After consulting with several orthopedic surgeons we have decided to let her keep her leg. As you can see from the video below--she is doing just fine!
Barbi is a Lemon and White American Field Bred English Pointer that was in an over crowded shelter in Southern Illinois. She came in with a terrible limp and when we got her into foster care a visit to the vet and subsequent X-rays show that she was shot and the bullet fractured her thigh bone in half. How this little girl managed to get around is amazing. She must have been in the worst pain imaginable. In order to give her a good quality of life it has been decided that removing the injured leg will be the best course of action.

Due to the fact that many of our dogs have come from shelters or abuse or neglect situations, and unless we have tested these dogs on upland birds and feel they are confident and ready to work as a hunter with families where they will be trained with kindness and patience, we will only adopt to pet homes.
All adoptions include vaccinations, deworming, microchips, spaying or neutering, collar, leash and an information adoption packet. All IBR dogs are crate trained, housebroken, socialized with other dogs and loved on by their human foster parents. Adoption fees are used to cover vetting expenses and special need dogs' vetting care. We also require non-smoking homes with fenced in yards- traditional or invisible.

We have saved many dogs with heartworm, tick borne illnesses, broken legs, missing legs, blind dogs, a new deaf puppy, dogs suffering from Parvo and especially senior dogs that may need expensive health care to help them get ready for adoption. In February of 2006, in one weekend, we brought in 20+ dogs from the Boat Mountain Tragedy, and that depleted our emergency funds.
