My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hedy had the same home since she was six months old but in the end it wasn't right for her. There were three kids, one under seven years and two older ones, and the people said "cat didn't like the youngest child poking at her all the time." Otherwise, they reported that she was gentle, playful, and friendly. Hedy seems to be a sensitive-natured cat so upheavals in life would be hard for her to handle. The family gave Hedy up just after moving. She found herself at a shelter (which would have been stressful) and she was soon adopted. However, adoption itself is a major upheaval that animals have trouble understanding and Hedy was soon returned. She came to Katie's Place where we can give her more time and space. But all Hedy knew was that she had ended up in yet another strange place surrounded by more strangers. For anyone who's sensitive, this would certainly jangle the nerves. So we saw a scared, confused little cat who longed for reassurance but was too upset to let anyone close for too long. Hedy growls and grumbles even while she's accepting pets and rolling around like a cutey. We've petted her quite a bit while she's doing this. Even while she was being examined at the vet, she was growling but she never lashed out. However, the tension does seem to reach a point and then release when Hedy would lash out. Anyone not familiar with cats could find this discomfiting. She just needs a cat-savvy home. Also, being so young still, she'll likely mellow as she ages. Her first video below was made within days of arriving at our shelter and shows her anxiety and conflict over wanting attention while still being scared. The next video was made a few days later and shows how she wants attention and asks for it but is rattled when she sees other cats while trying to focus on her visitor. Her last video was made a few days after that and shows how she's coming along well, relaxing and accepting pets for a longer period. Hedy will be fine, she just needs time! She's a gorgeous little Tortoiseshell Point with spirit and character! In a family that can allow her the space and time to settle in, trust will soon grow and Hedy could blossom into an endearing family member.

Hedy was born on July 10, 2009.
