My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*** ADOPTION PENDING ***

Honeybee joined the NLOL pack on our latest visit to Animal Care and Control and stole our hearts right away. Just look into her deep brown eyes — she’s not only a specimen of beauty, but she captivates you with a glance... like she’s got a story to tell you if only you’ll give her a minute. Well, we gave her a minute (and more) and we haven’t regretted it one bit!

Unfortunately, our little Honeybee fell gravely ill with canine pneumonia and has been under intensive care at our vet in recent weeks. We’re happy to report she’s pulling through to a safe and playful puppy recovery. While under veterinary care, the entire staff fell head-over-heels for her, just like we did. "When we administer Honeybee’s treatments," one technician said, "she always nestles up to me with her head on my leg and lets me give medication with this grateful expression on her face. She knows the routine; it’s like she knows we’re trying to help her. I’m completely smitten."

The most striking thing about Honeybee is her intelligence. After two days of wearing a makeshift, criss-cross halter leash (to keep pressure off her throat due to her illness), she began lifting one leg, then the other, in anticipation of her odd walking device when the technicians began to place it on her! She's one smart pup.

Now that she’s beginning to feel like her old self, she’s playing like the typical 9-month old Belgian Malinois mix that she is. Because of her strength, size, and vigor, she’d be best for an experienced dog owner and a home with adults or older (a.k.a. sturdier) children only. With a good round of obedience training to channel that puppy energy and daily exercise via walks or dog parks, she is bound to be a great life companion! We look forward to many healthful, energetic days for Honeybee. She hasn’t been cat-tested yet, but we’d be more than happy to for anyone who’s interested. She also seems to be an alpha female, so she’d likely do well with a beta male dog.
