My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pumpkin is a gorgeous, affectionate, petite, gentle, sweet, energetic, calm when needed, obedient, watchful and playful one year old Shepherd/Labrador mix puppy. She looks just like a miniature GSD. She loves everyone and everything in life with a great curiosity. Cats, other dogs at dog parks or on a walk, children it does not matter, Pumpkin loves them all. Her favourite thing to do is sit beside you and watch TV. She is extremely loyal. She can be a bit timid around new situations but adjusts very quickly. Her intelligence is very high and she learns very quickly what is acceptable and what is not. She would fit in with young and older because of her great disposition and love of life and everyone. She is currently 42 lbs and may not grow much larger in stature.

Our little cutie has a mild but under control form of megaesphogus or ME. This is a disease where the esophagus loses or never has had muscle tone, which can cause regurgitation from her esophagus if not correctly dealt with. She has thoroughly tested and there are not any other underlying health issues that may have caused this except perhaps that she was the runt of the litter of nine.

Her diet consists of Venison and Sweet Potato dry food (found at your local pet store) soaked with double the amount of water and mashed. As water should not be given directly in a bowl, she does receive enough through this method of food preparation. She is fed three small meals a day and stands up to eat so that gravity can do its job and drop the food to her stomach. She then sits and has her throat massaged so she does need to be attended during feeding. She also has the assistance of a vet prescribed pill called Metoclop that she takes twice a day to flex her eosphagus muscle. The cost for this is about $10/month.

If you feel that you can give Pumpkin the home she deserves and don’t mind watching her when she is near water so that you can massage her throat to help her swallow, please drop us an email anmlresq@hotmail.com or fill in our on-line application found on www.furkidsrescue.ca
