My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rosy is one of the nine collies that came to MWCR when their breeder decided to get out of the business. She is the only rough-coated collie in the group, but she has been shaved down so she currently looks like her smooth-coated colleagues. She is a loving, senior girl who was originally sold as a puppy to someone who loved her but became ill and was no longer able to care for her. Thus she was returned to her breeder and eventually came to us.

Rosy is a “pleasingly plump” lady whose greatest joys include lots of attention from her humans, lots of naps and an occasional leisurely stroll on her leash. She is housetrained and very well mannered, with no interest in counter-surfing or raiding the trash can. She “asks” to go out when she needs to potty and can be left alone for extended periods of time without incident. Rosy has reliable recall, but does like to wander, so a fenced yard would be ideal. If her forever home did not include a fence, it would be important for her family to be outside with her to ensure that she doesn’t wander off. She walks nicely (though a bit slowly) on her leash and rides well in the car as long as she has some help getting in and out. Stairs are no problem for her and she willingly takes a daily dose of glucosamine/condroitin to help keep her joints in shape.

Rosy is very good about grooming and allows her foster mom to bathe, blow dry and brush her coat and is also tolerant of nail clipping, ear cleaning and even tooth scaling. Her fur is currently shaved, but when it grows out it is extremely “cottony,” so her groomer recommends that it be kept regularly clipped to about a 2-3 inch length.

Rosy is a quiet girl who rarely barks, but when she does she has a hoarse voice that is probably the result of having been de-barked. She knows her name and several commands including “here,” (which means “come here”), “kennel” (which means “go into your crate”) and “potty outside. “

Rosy is a sweet natured girl who loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for it. If her foster mom quits petting her before Rosy believes she has had enough, she will put up one paw as if begging for more. She loves children of all ages, but would do best with older kids who understand that a senior girl isn’t going to enjoy rough housing, fetching or extended walks. She is fine with other dogs, but prefers to watch them play rather than joining in. Her foster home does not include cats, so we can’t say how she would react to feline companions, but she is a gentle girl who would probably ignore them.

Rosy will be getting a dental cleaning on 8/2/11 but after that time she will be ready for her forever home. She is a loving collie whose calm, gentle nature will bring nothing but joy to the family that shares their home with her during her golden years.
