My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

*******IMPORTANT****** IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ONE OF OUR DOGS PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE AND FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION. AFTER WE HAVE AN APPLICATION ON FILE WE WILL COMMUNICATE SPECIFICS ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR DOG. WE ARE A SMALL RESCUE, OVERWHELMED BY THE NUMBER OF DOGS WE HAVE IN OUR FOSTER PROGRAM AND ARE UNABLE TO ANSWER OR CALL UNTIL WE HAVE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION.
Mr. Beefy is a 4 year old owner surrender when his medical problems became much too expensive for his family to handle. His last family certainly wasn't his first. He was purchased off craigslist 2 times before he landed in his most recent comfy home (also purchased off craigslist). Years of neglect had taken it's toll on poor Beefy but his most recent home did their very best to correct what they could. After the economy hit the family hard and a family member became very ill, they found it difficult to find the money for a very expensive and specialized surgery that Beefy required.
Beefy is a big boy, tipping the scales at 80 pounds. During his trip from Florida to Georgia, he had difficulty breathing and nearly died twice. It was pretty obvious that our first concern had to be his palate. He also had an infected anal gland and recurrent tail pocket infections.
Beefy was evaluated at Georgia Vet Specialists and underwent surgery. The palate was corrected but the infection in his anal gland wasn't anal gland at all but a drainage tract from his very deep, twisted and infected tail. After 4 hours of surgery and a cost of nearly $4000, the tail was removed and the drainage tract excised. He is now recovering in his foster home.
The surgery appears to have been a success.
Now Beefy will have to undergo Orthopedic evaluation to treat bad knees on each hind leg. Surgery for this will cost approx. $3000 per knee. We plan on doing this surgery in the fall.
Beefy is a sweet boy who reportedly does well with other dogs and children. We are going to have to recommend adoption to only older children, as he is a pretty big boy and can play rough when excited. SInce his activities have been severly restricted after surgery, we haven't tested him around other dogs, yet.
Aside from his surgical issues, he is healthy.
He is neutered, heartworm negative and UTD on shots.

Update: Beefy IS dog aggressive and will only be placed in a home without other pets. He is also a very large boy and plays a little rough...only families with older children should consider adopting Beefy
If you can't adopt or foster at this time, please consider helping defray the cost of Beefy's surgery. We are a small rescue, overwhelmed with the number of dogs in our program. We can only continue helping Bulldogs if we have the publics help.
Update: Beefy has lost enough weight to be able to undergo knee surgeries in the next few months. He is a very sweet dog to his humans but simply will not tolerate other animals. He's a bulldozer who can break through doggy gates and metal crates....applications for homes with other pets or small children will not be considered.
