My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cowboy is a 2-3 year old purebred Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. He is drop-dead handsome and is a big boy at 65 lbs.

Cowboy found himself on the euthanasia list at a local kill shelter. One of our Intake Coordinators has a huge soft spot for Cattle Dogs, so we brought him into rescue to help him find his forever home.

Cowboy is a smart, intelligent boy who is picking up his obedience training without a hitch. He is house/crate trained, and is learning how to walk nicely on a leash. This boy needs an adopter who is experienced training and working with dogs, as he is one that will push boundaries if you are not consistent and firm (but positive) with him. This trait is very common in Cattle Dogs, so someone who is experienced, or has researched, the breed would be preferred, but not required.

While he may take a little more work to establish boundaries with Cowboy, anyone who has ever had Cattle Dogs can tell you that they are unbelievably loyal and will provide years of companionship.

BREED INFO:
-Playful, active, athletic pets
-Completely and totally devoted to their family, but naturally cautious (but not aggressive) towards strangers
-Considered one of the smartest breeds, based on obedience command trainability
-Do best with older, dog-savvy children because of their instinct to nip at the heels of fast-moving kids
-"Wash and wear" dogs that don't require a lot of grooming
-Healthy and hardy. They have more problems with injuries than illnesses because of their athletic and exploring nature.
-12-15 year lifespan
