My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Description: Nessa is the shy girl at the party. She came to MWCR with the group of collies that was surrendered by a breeder who was getting out of the business, and though she is lacking in confidence, she has no lack of charm and beauty.

Like her pack mates, Nessa has adjusted nicely to being an indoor dog. She is fully housetrained, crate trained and generally well behaved. Lots of indoor things are new to her, however, so she is very curious and sometimes gets into trouble because of it. She loves to check out counter tops in case her foster mom has left something tasty there, and though she knows what “off” means, she sometimes develops selective hearing. She eats and sleeps in her crate, but she could easily adjust to sleeping with her people.

Nessa is a calm, good natured girl and despite her shyness, she is not a nervous dog. She rarely barks in the house, though she will join in with the other dogs while outdoors. She does not like harsh, raised voices, and an angry tone (particularly from a man) will cause her to slink away. She seems to be more comfortable with women than men, though a calm, soft spoken man could win her over.

Nessa knows her name and several commands including “here,” “kennel,” “potty outside” and “off.” She is completely cooperative with all forms of grooming including her ears, nails and teeth. She walks quite nicely on her leash and rides well in a car in her crate.

Nessa gets along well with other dogs, and though she would like to be the “alpha” female, she quickly backs down when challenged. She enjoys playing with the other dogs at her foster home, including the resident puppy. She has shown no food aggression. Nessa has not lived with cats, but could probably do so if she were introduced properly. She might chase a kitty, but wouldn’t hurt one. She would be fine with older (12 or above) children as long as they were gentle and respectful. Boisterous, younger kids cause her to flee.

Nessa is looking for a forever home that is quiet to moderately active. She must have a fenced yard where she can feel safe and to prevent her from bolting if something frightens her. Her new family will need to be patient with her while she acclimates to a new environment and grows in confidence. A canine buddy might help her feel more secure, but is not mandatory. She would make a wonderful companion for a retired person or couple or for a single woman. Nessa is shy, but she has a gentle, loving nature and is ready to give her heart to someone who is willing to earn her trust.
