My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Phoebe is a smart, petite pitbull who was rescued from a local impound when her "time was up." She is about 7 months old and very petite at 32 pounds. Phoebe is in foster care and is enjoying her long walks, playing fetch and rolling around in the grass. She does very well with polite dogs and likes to play with them. Phoebe is curious about cats but will leave them alone if instructed to. She loves women and likes guys once she gets over her initial fear of them. She will do best with older respectful kids in her new home. Like most puppies, Phoebe would benefit from some type of training and would probably do very well in agility or something similar as she seems to like to work and be active. She would do best in a family that liked going on hikes or had an active jogger or bike-rider that would take her along. At this stage Phoebe is an active chewer so she requires braided rawhides or nylabones as she'll rip plush toys or flimsy things apart. She walks well on a leash and does even better at not pulling with a gentle leader or easy walk harness on. Phoebe crates fairly well--she will whine for a few minutes and then settle in quietly. She does even better with a kong or something in the crate to chew on. Phoebe prefers not to be kenneled overnight and has done well with an exercise and potty routine before bed., She is potty trained well with a schedule and will whine at the door if she needs to go outside again, and you have to be quickly responsive or she'll have an accident. Phoebe is a wonderful, happy puppy who is with a 501c3 non profit rescue. She came with no vet history at all. Her $300 adoption fee is to cover her spay, heartworm pill, immunizations, worming, flea/tick preventive and HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.
