My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We would like to explain that if you are looking for a perfect dog, they are rarely found in rescue. Our dogs often have unknown histories and we do our very best to evaluate each dog with kids, cats, and other dogs as well as determine how they behave in a home. It is important to understand that we have some specific criteria for each dog based on their backgrounds and input from their foster families. The purpose of these criteria is to better match each dog with an appropriate family. While a certain dog might appeal to you based on breed, size, gender or appearance, you may not match the listed criteria. Please understand that we are not trying to make adoption difficult—we are trying to make each adoption successful for the dog and the new family.

If you have children, we suggest that prior to applying for a dog, you view the website http://www.livingwithkidsanddogs.com. The information is excellent and can help you determine which dog would be right for your family.

Lucas is a 5-6 month old lab mix pup who was rescued from a kill shelter where he "failed" the food aggression test. Considering he was a starving stray puppy that's not too surprising but is surely no reason to euthanize a puppy! Now that he is in a foster home and has plenty of food he will willingly share his bowl and bones with everyone--people and other dogs. Lucas weighs about 40 now and he will likely be 50-66 pounds as an adult. This little fellow absolutely loves everyone he meets. He's great with kids and loves, loves, loves to play with other dogs! He hasn't been around cats but would surely try to play with them too. You can tell he is a retriever because he loves sticks and was busy helping his foster family carry sticks over to the burn pile! Lucas is house trained on a schedule (he doesn't ask to go out yet) and he is kennel trained when everyone is gone. When the family is in the yard Lucas is very good about staying around and playing but needs a fenced yard or close supervision. Lucas would love a home with another playful dog and some kids to play with too. He needs someone home half the time as he is too young and active to be crated for extended hours. Lucas is with a 501c3 non profit rescue. His $250 adoption fee covers his neuter, heartworm pills, all immunizations, worming, flea/tick prevention and HomeAgain microchip.

To ensure that this dog thrives in his new home and that the adoption works out for the dog and your family, these are the requirements for adoption. These criteria are not negotiable. If you do not meet these criteria, please choose another dog that will work out better for your family.
