My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Bella is a beautiful brindle hound mix, about 1 1/2 years old, who was abandoned by her owner (along with her brother, who has been adopted). Bella is housetrained, and loves to follow her nose, and to run like the wind. Bella isn't very fond of other dogs; we are able to teach her to tolerate the other shelter dogs, but Bella would prefer to be the only dog, and definitely is a "people" dog - she'd much rather be with a person than with another dog. She is a fairly sensitive soul who will do best in a calm home where she can bond with at least one experienced "pack leader" type. She is a devoted, playful, and affectionate dog, but definitely not easy enough for a "first time" dog owner.

She is a little bit afraid of cats, and also a little bit interested in chasing them if they run. We think an experienced dog owner would be able to integrate Bella into a home with a cat or two, particularly if the cats are dog-friendly and more interested in rubbing up against the dog than in running from it.

Because Bella is a young and active scent hound, who would likely find an interesting scent and race off, nose to the ground, to "track" it, we recommend a large fenced yard for her. If there is no fenced area, on-leash exercise would be the solution. She currently shows promise at leash training, though will do better when she is in a home situation, where she can have consistent on-leash time with less of the over-excitement she has when working with a shelter volunteer.

Bella does know "sit" and she gives her paw for a shake when she sits. When she first is brought out of her shelter kennel, she is so excited to be with people and to go outside, that she needs to race around for a while before she will listen to a "sit" command. Bella is an outgoing, enthusiastic girl who definitely has both a bark and a hound-bay - she likes to talk! Not a good apartment dog (ha), but she will be a fantastic and devoted companion.

Like all our adult pet placements, Bella comes with a 30-day money-back trial adoption period.

Spay/neuter, worming, microchip and all age-appropriate shots are always completed before placement, and are included in the adoption fee (suggested minimum $75; more gratefully accepted!)

Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to both the Seattle area and Spokane, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
