My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Joey is a wonderful Sheltie puppy who is ready to find his forever family. He is friendly and outgoing, gets along with other dogs, and of course, because he is a Sheltie, he is super smart and eager to learn! He's a busy, busy, busy little guy, so he would love a family that can keep up with him.

AGE: 11 weeks (born 6/2011)
SIZE: 7-8 lbs
TEMPERAMENT: Joey loves people and is very affectionate - he loves to give hugs & kisses.
FENCE: Preference will be given to an adopter who has a securely fenced yard. If no fence, the MNSR adoption contract requires that Joey will always be on a leash or lead when not in a securely fenced area.
DOGS: Joey enjoys playing chase with his canine pals, as well as play tug/fetch. He could also be an only dog for an adopter who has plenty of time to devote to training him and playing with him.
CATS: Joey loves the cats in his foster home.
KIDS: Unknown - no children in his foster home. He should be fine with children as long as he is properly socialized with them, and children should be supervised when interacting with him for his safety.
CRATE-TRAINED: Joey barks for a little bit in his crate and then goes to sleep.
HOUSETRAINED: Working on it. Joey is doing great for his age. He runs to the door when he wants to go out.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Working on basics. Joey knows sit, and is working on down and no. We strongly encourage his adopter to continue with his training by taking him to formal classes.
LEASH MANNERS: Joey walks well on a leash and he loves to go for walks. When he sees you take out his leash, he sits and waits for you to put it on. He is still working on walking on just one side and not circling me when we are walking.
CAR RIDES: Joey rides well in a crate in the car.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: HIGH! Joey needs an active home with opportunities for active physical exercise several times per day. He may be an awesome agility dog when he gets older, he has TONS of energy.
BARKING: Average for a Sheltie. He barks when he wants something. (Toy, treats, food, go outside, etc)
HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.
EXPERIENCED HOME: Joey should go to a home with someone who is used to a very busy/active dog. (Or who could get used to it :) )

Joey would love any family that could provide him attention and a safe area for him to run and play. Joey is very sweet and loving and would make any dog lovers heart melt.

For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Joey's adoption fee is $350.00 + we will require a neuter deposit to be refunded when Joey is old enough to be altered (we follow up on this). All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).
