My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Description: Sport is another victim of bad economic times. When his family was forced to move from their home to an apartment where Sport wasn't welcome, he went to live with another family member and then to some family friends. By the time he came to MWCR he had been bounced around a bit and had obviously been living primarily outdoors. His coat was so matted and full of fleas that the only solution was to shave him to the skin. Now, with winter coming, Sport is hoping to find a nice, warm forever home where he can settle in and wait for his beautiful thick fur to grow back.

The records from Sport's original vet show that he was born in September of 2002, so he is a mature boy, but he still has lots of spring in his step and joy in his heart. When he arrived at his foster home, he immediately fit in with the resident dogs (in spite of a little goodhearted ribbing about his haircut) and loves to run and play with the group. He is quiet for a collie, but when the other dogs start barking, he politely joins in. He is a friendly, happy boy who doesn't squabble with the other dogs over food or toys and who even has a live-and-let-live attitude toward the squirrels.

Sport is very well mannered in the house and is fully house trained. He knows “sit” and “paw” and has good recall. He never attempts to get up on the furniture and when his foster family turns in at night, his foster mom tells him “time for bed,” and he goes willingly into his crate where he sleeps quietly all night. This is the family's routine, but his foster mom believes that there is no real need to crate Sport, since he has no bad or destructive habits.

Sport loves his human family and wants everyone to love him. He likes to rub against people to encourage a little butt scratch, and when he gets one, he shows his appreciation by performing his “happy dance.” If the petting stops too soon, he will nudge you with his nose to let you know that you aren't finished yet. Although there are no children in his foster home, Sport is such a sweet, mellow boy that we believe he would be good with children of almost any age. He is similarly untested with cats, but again, would probably be fine since he ignores the squirrels and his foster home's tiny Yorkies.

Sport has lived through some unsettled times lately and is more than ready to be part of a happy, loving family. He will blend easily into almost any environment as long as there is plenty of love and lots of butt scratches – and a warm winter coat until his fur grows back!
