My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Trevor is an adorable little blue merle boy, only weighing 12 lbs. He came out of a puppy mill, but is a pretty social little guy considering, and he’s doing great in his foster home. He loves to run and play with his humans and other dogs.

AGE: 8 years; but looks & acts like a puppy!
SIZE: 12 lbs.
TEMPERAMENT: Trevor loves to cuddle up in your arms on the couch. He is shy around people he doesn't know, but warms up.
FENCE: A securely fenced yard (wood, chain link or vinyl fence) is preferred. If no fence, our adoption contract requires that Trevor will always be on a leash or lead, for his lifetime, anytime he is in an area that is not completely and securely fenced.
DOGS: Trevor gets along well with the two Shelties in his foster home. He would like to find a home with a canine companion.
CATS: Trevor is not aggressive or dominant with cats, but probably had never been around cats before coming into foster care. They are a novelty to him, and he likes to bark at the resident cat, who is timid and runs. He should go to a home without cats, or with a dog-savvy cat that will stand up to Trevor.
KIDS: Trevor has been fine around older children. He likely has never been around very young children.
CRATE-TRAINED: He does well in a crate during the day when his foster parents are at work, and at night when they are sleeping in the same room with him.
HOUSETRAINED: Yes.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Trevor has not had formal obedience training. He is working on the basics in his foster home and has learned "sit" and "down" already. We encourage his adopter to take him to training classes for bonding, to build his confidence, and because he is a quick learner and would do very well in a class. (We offer Sheltie obedience classes through MNSR).
LEASH MANNERS: Trevor enjoys leash walks!
CAR RIDES: Trevor rides nicely in a crate in the car and does not get car sick.
BARKING: Average for a Sheltie. Trevor will bark at strangers and the family cat.
HEALTH ISSUES: Due to likely poor nutrition and poor care while in the mill, all of Trevor’s teeth had to be removed. He is now pain-free, and he can eat a quality dry kibble and TREATS (he’s a Sheltie) without any problem. Bonus: he doesn't chew on furniture and will never need a dental again!

Trevor is very adorable, cuddly and cute as a button! He loves activity, but falls asleep easily, especially when being petted and held! He’s an easy keeper!

For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Trevor's adoption fee is $250.00, and he is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), had a dental with extractions, is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

If you are interested in fostering a Sheltie and have a fenced yard, please email foster@mnsheltierescue.org. Please note that we are an all-volunteer organization, and we respond to inquiries as quickly as we can.

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
