My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Description: It's never fun getting older, but how sad it must be to reach your golden years and find yourself homeless. That is just what happened to our sweet Guinevere. She was found with several other stray dogs roaming loose near Buffalo, MN. She was taken to a shelter and later came to an MWCR foster home where she is receiving the love and care that such a gentle lady deserves. We will never know how she came to lose her home, but her soft brown eyes show that she is grateful to be safe, warm and loved.

Guinevere is a sweet, loving soul who likes everyone she meets. She always has a friendly wag for strangers - male, female, young or old. She is very well behaved with the other dogs in her foster home and though she is not interested in rough-housing with them, she has an easy going, live-and-let-live attitude. She is a gentle girl who is also fine with kitties and would be good with children as long as they understood that as a senior, she won't do a lot of running and playing.

Guinevere tested positive for heartworm when she first arrived at the shelter and was given an initial treatment. Later, an ultrasound at her MWCR vet showed her heart to be normal and healthy with no worms present. He recommends, however, that she be kept on Interceptor year round. We are not sure if she has been spayed since the vet cannot find a spay scar, but because she is past the puppy producing stage, he feels it would be an unnecessary risk to spay her now. She is a bit hard of hearing, so a fenced yard would be nice for her.

Guinevere is a well mannered house guest who never jumps up on furniture or people. She rarely barks and for the first two weeks at her foster home, she didn't utter a peep. Now she will join in with the other dogs when they bark to welcome home their mom. She is working hard on her house training, but still has the occasional accident when left for a prolonged period. Her foster mom believes she would do much better in an environment where she could be let out more frequently, so her ideal forever home would be one where she wasn't left alone for the entire work day. She is terrified of her kennel, so that is not an option. Guinevere rides nicely in the car and jumps in without assistance. She has no trouble with stairs. Although she tolerates grooming, it isn't one of her favorite things. She enjoys an occasional walk and is good on her leash.

Guinevere is looking for a quiet, low key home in which to spend her retirement years. Her demands are few: good food, a gentle pat on the head, a place to nap in the sun, and the love of her family. Her soft brown eyes will thank you every day.
