My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We rescued Carmen from Athens Animal Control. My husband and I went to pick up another dog and as usual we looked around. I didn't give Carmen much though actually. She barked when we were near her pen. Normally chihuahuas get adopted or rescued anyway. However before we left my husband commented, "I though that little chihuahua in the back was cute, if she wasn't barking at me." We checked on her status and was surprised to find that she had no applications or back up rescues.

Before getting her I wanted to check out her temperament. All I had seen was her barking at us which didn't leave me thinking she'd be nice. I went to her run and knelled down, put my hand against the fence. Her reaction? She came and licked my hand. We went inside with her and though we could tell she was a bit insecure she was very sweet. We couldn't leave her there.

Carmen is a chihuahua or chihuahua mix. She is a small girl weighing about 10lbs. We are estimating her to be around 3 years old. Carmen has been going home with her foster mom. She is doing great at house manners. She hasn't had an accident in the house once (foster mom crates her at night and during day when not at home.) She being taught to sit, down and just to be a good dog. Carmen has a tendency to bark at things (a new person approaching down the road). However, she responds very well when her foster mom tells her to stop. I think once she's been in a stable environment she'll become less insecure and won't be worried as much. She'd make a great little lap dog. You won't have to be super strict with her, simply teach her the rules and she'll make a great pet.

Carmen does GREAT with other dogs. One of the first days we had her we let her and the other new pups out for a little playtime together. Well the other pups were 5 times her size and thought they wanted to play with her. Despite them being crazy and bouncy, she handled it perfectly. She currently is being fostered in a home with 4 other dogs.
