My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Catz Jazz Rescue assists as many unfortunate & abandoned cats as possible, while advocating the message of compassion towards animals and responsible pet ownership. Catz Jazz strives to be one of the best Austin cat rescue operations by providing comfort & care for each and every animal coming into our rescue with consideration of their individual situations. Our goal is to find life-long companions for the rescued cats in our care.

Read about Tonka: Tonka has been waiting and hoping since last October for someone to pick him.

This handsome fellow is currently our MOST OVERLOOKED cat, he's been in rescue foster since last fall with no interest at all on him, yet he is so sweet and desperately wants to have a human of his own that will show him he is worthy of being loved.

Tonka was dropped off at the kill shelter last fall after hanging around outside a convenience store in a small community East of Bastrop.

It was obvious he had a fairly tough life on the streets for a time as his little tattered ears attest to. We think it just adds to his character. There is a saying that scars are like battle wounds - beautiful, in a way. They show what you've been through and how strong you are for coming out of it.

We definitely believe Tonka has come out of suffering with a stronger soul and incredible character. Won't you consider giving him a chance?

Tonka is estimated to be about eight years old, but he still has so much love to offer and hopes he won't have to live out his senior years without a forever home.

Our goal is to get him into a home where he will be treated with love and kindness. He is such a sweet boy who will curl up in your lap as soon as you sit down and loves the attention of getting petted while warming your lap. Amazingly, even though he has spent time roughing it on the streets, he emerged FIV and FeLuke negative and he is also heartworm negative! This boy really lucked out and since he made it this far on his own, we want to make sure he is placed with a forever home where he will truly be part of the family. He certainly deserves at least that!

Tonka needs to be in a home without young children and no dogs as he has shown trepidation with both, and we certainly don't want his wonderful personality overshadowed by him being in constant fear. He has also shown to distance himself from other cats, perhaps it is his shy nature, or maybe he is scared of them, either way, his personality shines much better as a single cat, or perhaps with another non-threatening, low-key cat who will respect his space, so a calm household with a warm lap or two is really where this awesome cat will do great in.

Tonka enjoys supervised time outside in a very secure yard or outdoor patio every now and then; he would make a perfect candidate for those humans who are interested in walking their cat on a harness, but he must be kept on heartworm prevention to ensure his time outside does not result in any heartworm disease!

This wonderful cat found out the hard way that every winner has scars, and he wants to find that special kind human who understands about healing and who he can look forward to come home to him every day, so he can be their hero and so they can be his.

Who wants to be his hero and keep him safe tonight?

Please help spread the word about this wonderful cat and share his story with your friends! Tonka is waiting for that day he gets adopted!

Tonka's estimated D.O.B. is 04/20/04
Dated added: 11/15/11 Photos current as of: 8/27/12

Tonka has passed a vet exam, is up-to-date with age-appropriate vaccinations, has been treated for any medical needs, given preventative treatment for internal parasites/fleas, has tested negative for FeLV/FIV, has been neutered and is litter-box trained. Now he just needs a forever home!

Baby, let's paint the town! If you want some Cat Jazz in your life and are interested in adopting this groovin' Catz Jazz rescue cat, please complete an online adoption application right now or call us! We do not have a shelter building facility, but can set up appointments to bring a cat for a meet and greet to a prospective adopters' home up to 50 miles from our Austin base.

Please be advised that interested adopters go through a careful screening process to include reference checks, telephone interviews, in-person interview and home visits. It is our responsibility to ensure that the kitty's adopting family will always be committed to taking care of the adopted animal not just during it's cute phases but during unpleasant situations as well - if and when health or behavior problems develop over time (and they may), and that the cat is not being adopted on an impulse or will be discarded if their human gets tired of them. We genuinely care about the lives we have saved and want our rescued cats to to end up in a great forever home our mechanism of careful screening is there to increase the chances of this happening. Be prepared for a thorough interview and really be SURE that you are ready to make a lifetime commitment and to emotionally, physically and financially support a companion animal through rain or shine.

If you can't adopt Tonka, would you consider donating a Kuranda cat bed to Catz Jazz so that other rescued animals can wait in comfort for their forever person to find them?

Our rescued animals love to sleep on Kuranda beds because of their orthopedic comfort and we love them because they are stackable, allowing high perches for shy cats while increasing the amount of floor space, but due to our already constricted operating budget, we just don't have enough for everyone to sleep on.

When you donate a Kuranda bed to us, you will give an Austin rescue a place to sleep in comfort and have a bed to dream on while they patiently wait for their forever home.

We also gratefully accept donations of much-needed items from our
Catz Jazz Wish List.

Thank you so much for helping us out.

Any donation, no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated.
