Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Jake, a beautiful three-year-old male GSD with black and tan coloring and a gorgeous long coat. As a puppy, Jake was in a situation where he had limited opportunities for socialization. He was constantly crated until he was approximately five months old. Jake’s owners realized that it wasn’t fair to crate a dog for such extended periods of time and they gave him to a friend who they hoped could give Jake more opportunities for exercise and socialization. Jake, however, unfamiliar with so much freedom seemed a bit timid in this new environment. His new owners, with the best interest of this beautiful dog in mind, realized that Jake needed the help of people familiar with GSDs and called GSRNE for help. We were fortunate to have an experienced foster home available home for him. In his new environment, Jake has flourished and has had the opportunity to learn so many of the things he missed out on as a puppy and a young dog.
Jake has a very warm soft personality. He is very happy with just sitting beside his human pack or following them around the house. He loves to sit on the porch and watch the neighborhood activity. He will nudge you with his nose to tell you he wants a pat or a hug. Shortly after the nudge, you will find Jake on his back asking for a belly rub. Jack is a kissing bandit and will try to steal a kiss at any opportunity he can.
Jake is a typical GSD in the way he demonstrates his loyalty to the people who care for him. Jake follows his people around everywhere and never leaves their side. Jake also loves to play fetch, go on walks and participate in any activities that involve giving him affection. Yet, Jake also has a mellow side. He loves to sit on the porch and take in the scenery all around him, or to just be lazy and sit by his human’s side.
Jake is still learning what is expected of him when meeting and playing with other dogs. On walks, Jake has done well greeting other dogs that demonstrate good manners. He also has positive interactions with the dogs in his current foster home. However, this is an area where Jake will need continued guidance.
After so much time alone as a young dog, Jake is a bit uncertain when meeting strangers. However, Jake is working on this and has done very well with the techniques his foster family has employed to help continue his socialization. His foster home indicates that it usually takes Jake only takes a few minutes at this point to warm up to new people and then he wants to be their best friend.
Jake needs a home that is committed to working with him to continue to build his confidence. Jake has made great progress and can continue to overcome his insecurities with dedication. Jack would work best with a home that wants a warm companion who is interested in doing everything his person does.
Jake would thrive in a home with a confident, GSD-savvy handler. This dog has come so far and he is looking for that special home that can help him continue the amazing progress he has made.
