Meet Ebony, a beautiful 2-year-old, totally black German Shepherd with a soft, shiny coat and light brown eyes. She came into GSRNE, along with six other dogs, from a breeder who was closing his business. Ebony had had two litters that we know of before coming into GSRNE and was spayed.
This young female is affectionate with her foster family and will wag her tail when they walk by or simply look in her direction. She’ll roll over and put up a paw when she wants a belly rub or might even put up both front paws as if she’d like to play patty cake.
Ebony may show some shyness around strangers at first but after a few minutes, she is very friendly and sweet. Once she knows you, she will greet you and your family members and give you her affection. She seems especially fond of children. She enjoys being around other dogs, but we can’t say the same for cats. Ebony has a strong prey drive for squirrels and other small, furry critters.
Riding in the car is one of her favorite things, but she also enjoys her daily walks. She does need to learn to walk better on the leash because she has a tendency to pull hard if she gets distracted by something (squirrel). Her foster parents have been working on that and her adopter will need to continue with that training. She does know her basic commands: sit, stay and come when called.
Ebony will lie quietly and snooze while you watch TV, read or work on your computer. She’ll sleep peacefully at night next to your bed and she may come check on you once or twice to make sure everything is alright.
When we first met Ebony she had infected ears, with yeast and bacteria present. The infection has cleared up with treatment but she will need to have her ears cleaned regularly. There were two cysts on the top of her head, between her ears which we removed and biopsied and found to be benign.
Ebony’s an active girl and will need daily exercise and playtime in order to expel some energy and challenge her intelligence. She would do well with a compatible male or as an only dog in a family situation. All she needs now is for someone to give her that chance.
