My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sky is a WONDERFUL girl who ended up in a humane society and they contacted MNSR. She has a delightful personality, but had been moved from home to home, and we believe she has spent most of her life outside tied to a doghouse. She has learned indoor behavior quickly and loves to be petted. She is outgoing and not shy, which is great for a rescue Sheltie!

AGE: Estimated to be ~8-10 years, but acts much younger!
SIZE: She is at a good weight for her at 25 lbs.
TEMPERAMENT: Sky is so sweet! She wants a person to love her and she is so deserving of being loved. She tries so hard to please her person and will do anything you want if she can understand what you want.
FENCE: A secure wood, chain link or vinyl fence, with secure gates and direct access from the house is required. Sky loves to snoop and run and play in her fenced area.
DOGS: Sky does well with the other dogs in her foster home, but she doesn’t play with them. Maybe with time she will learn to play. Sky can go to a home with a canine companion or she can be the one & only for someone who has plenty of time to devote to her..
CATS: Sky ignores the cats in her foster home.
KIDS: Sky is wonderful with the teenagers in her foster home and does well with a visiting grandchild.
CRATE TRAINED: Sky is not comfortable using a crate but can be gated to a small area. She enjoys sleeping in a foam bed.
HOUSE-TRAINED: Sky is house-trained when let out on a schedule.
OBEDIENCE TRAINING: Sky hasn’t had any formal training. Her foster family has been working on sit and coming when she is called. She is learning to think and is beginning to make progress with both commands.
LEASH MANNERS: Sky loves leisurely walks on a leash.
CAR RIDES: Sky rides quietly in her crate in the car.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Sky is calm in the house.
BARKING: Sky will bark when she goes outside and she barks when she wants to come in. She responds well to “no bark”. She is a smart girl and has learned rather quickly that barking isn’t appreciated at her foster home.
HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues. Sky recently had a dental.

Sky is such a sweetie. She deserves someone to love and someone to love her. She truly is a great dog! She just needs someone who can continue to take her out regularly to help her be successful. Apply for this sweet girl! You will fall in love.

For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Sky's adoption fee is $125.00, and she is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), had a dental, is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
