My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Lucy!!

Lucy has more photos available here: www.facebook.com/toughlovepbr

Lucy is about 4.5 months old, 28 lbs and is a pretty and dark brindle color. She is spayed, has her rabies vaccine and license, and all of her puppy shots. She looks to be part german shepherd...but we'll never know for sure!

Lucy is happy, energetic, social, and loving. She gets along well with the other dogs that she has met and has played with (large and smaller). If no one plays with her, she will find a bone or a toy to play with, and throws it around herself and can have a blast, while also being entertaining, all by herself. She has not been around any children, or many cats, but she is young and malleable, so we would welcome all families to apply; we will do intros to all family members to be sure Lucy is a good fit!

If Lucy on a walk sometimes she barks at other dogs from far away, but that's more about learning good leash manners.

She does not appear to be aggressive about guarding her food with me, or the other dogs. When her and her foster brother play together, she is good about sharing. He takes her toys a lot and she doesn’t really show any aggression towards that.

Lucy knows how to sit, and we make her sit before she is allowed to eat her food, and also wait until we say she can eat. We have taught her a couple other basic commands such as laying down, but she has not fully mastered any of those yet. Other than that she isn’t very leash trained, and pulls some, but mainly pulls the most when she is with her foster brother because she wants to catch up to him and play with him.

At our home, Lucy doesn't have accidents inside. Every time she is taken out, she pees. Whether its 10 minutes or an hour, she usually is very good about peeing even if it’s just a little. She seems to have a pretty regular schedule for going to the bathroom after she eats. It takes her about 30 minutes to have to go to the bathroom. Every morning when we wake up we take her out of her kennel and take her out to go tot he bathroom before we do anything else. If she whines in the middle of the night or in the morning its usually because she needs to go to the bathroom so we generally respond to that quickly.

Lucy sleeps in a crate most of the time, and very rarely whines. When Lucy is left in the crate when home alone, her foster brother is usually there in the kennel next to her so she doesn’t whine. But when he is gone, she sometimes wines for a little because she doesn’t like to be alone. When we are inside she doesn’t bark. The only time she barks is when she’s playing with jude. But when people walk by the apartment, even if Jude barks, she doesn’t. She is pretty quiet, except when she is playing with her toys or a dog

Lucy is very cuddly and wants to be around people and prefers not to be alone. Often she’ll jump on the couch and lay by me while I watch a movie or TV. She likes to be next to you but won’t generally lay on your lap.

Lucy would be fine as an only dog, but might also enjoy a playful canine companion. She'd definitely need to meet potential new canine family members to see how they interact! She is more energetic when she is around another dog and can be a little of a hand full.

She would be happy with someone who has time to train her and wants to train her and where she will be the center of attention (at least center of attention for dog wise-as in being the only one).

When she is really interested in something she cocks her head to one side, and it is probably the cutest thing ever. She does it to some little noises, or if you make a weird noise or she is confused. It keeps us laughing!

Lucy is very brave and smart too. She can figure out how to get out of things and open things by using her feet to pull them open... like this metal crate type gate we have we’d put her in it sometimes and she’d use her foot to pull it open and get out of it. Also in Jude’s kennel (a wire type crate) we have a water dish that attaches to the inside. She will go and use her paw to pull the door of the kennel open to get the water. She is goofy and clumsy sometimes and is very interested in the outside. She’s smart, but at the same time sometimes she gets distracted at the very sound of something in the distance.

Lucy is a wonderful gal! She deserves a wonderful family committed to continue raising her to be a well-rounded adult! Please contact us to request an application for Lucy!

Lucy is spayed and fully vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $150.
