Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Shhh... I bet you didn't know that I am the quietest beagle in the world. Oh, I know what you're thinking: Quiet Beagle? That's an oxymoron, like Big Chihuahua, or Furry Greyhound, but it's true. In fact, my foster mom has only heard me bark four times. She says it's like having a mouse in the house. When I'm really excited, I sometimes whimper (very quietly) like a guinea pig. Hey do you think maybe my grandpa was part guinea pig?
I am an extremely obedient beagle. In fact, I've won the Foster Dad's Seal of Approval, which I hear is next to impossible in this house. I have never climbed on the table or gotten the trash or stolen any candy from babies. I really have no vices, except that I do like to dig under the fence if I'm bored, and once when I was left alone outside too long, (all of 10 minutes!) I snuck out to visit a neighbor. (She also commented on what a sweet dog I was!) Now I go outside on a tie out, and no one has to worry about me.
I do love to run around the yard if I've been cooped up for awhile. I like to play a little fetch, and a lot of keep-away. You could chase me for a long time before I give up. But as soon as your done, I'm ready to go inside for a nap, too. Walkies? I'd love to go. I walk very nicely on a leash around the neighborhood or in the park, but take me to the woods and I'll try to drag you into the brush with me. Everything just smells so good! I would say I am a low- to medium-energy kind of dog – for all of the playing I like to do, I still love to spend my free time napping on the sofa.
I love the sofa. Where I live now, the sofa is definitely the most comfortable place I am allowed to sleep, and I can be a little defensive about sharing it and my people cuddle time with the cat and dog here. I sometimes growl a little when the cat jumps up, but she ignores me and then I go back to sleep. I have been polite with the other animals here. I would make a good companion for another dog, but probably not a good playmate – I would rather spend my free time playing fetch with people.
I am wonderful with little kids. I am very tolerant of the two-year-old that lives here. She can't get enough of me -- she is always dragging me around the house by my collar, or trying to shove me into my crate for a nap, or even taking food out of my dish when I'm eating breakfast and trying to hand-feed me. She is very disturbed by my eating habits: I like to take one piece of kibble out of my bowl and walk across the room to eat it and then I go back for a second piece and repeat the process. She keeps trying to follow me around and get me to eat it all at once!
So if you're looking for a quiet cuddler that likes to play a little and nap little, I might just be your guy!
