My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Well, hello there! My name is Matthew and I am a Dandie Dinmont terrier, weighing in at about 15 lbs. I am a youngster between 1-2 years old and I am just lovin’ life! You have no idea just how much!

You see, I was rescued in the nick of time. I was set to be euthanized but my foster mom saw so much potential in me underneath all the matted fur. Then 3 weeks after she brought me home, I got really sick with something called distemper. It made me feel very yucky and I spent about 3 weeks in doggie ICU at the veterinarian.

My foster mom loved me so much that she refused to give up on me. She said it was because I never gave up and she always tells me that if I will fight, she will fight for me. And guess what?! I pulled through and am now ready to strut my stuff! The vet and my foster mom call me a Dandie Miracle. I kinda like the sound of that :-).

I am a happy-go-lucky little feller who loves everyone – other dogs (I prefer girls), kiddos, men, women – I mean everyone. I am very affectionate and sweet and just an all around happy guy!

Because of the distemper, I did develop a twitch that causes my head to nod slightly. They call it my “swagger”. Isn’t that funny? The vet said that at some point in my life I may start to have seizures, but that it could be managed by supportive medication.

Overall, I am excited about life. I have come so far and now my foster mom says the next step is a forever family of my very own!! That would be EPIC!

I would make a great addition to any family, if I may say so myself. Could that family be yours?

Do you have room in your heart and your home for a fun loving, perky feller like me?

If so, please e-mail caninecompassion@yahoo.com for an application.

**An excellent vet reference is required.**
