Lassie is a lovely Golden mix with the luxurious coat of a Golden and the darling face and petite frame of a Shetland Sheepdog. Her loving foster family reports, "The vet who checked her out today told Lassie she weighs 40 lbs and asked her, "Who called you a Golden Retriever? You are a Golden Sheltie!" Lassie just looked at her vet and smiled. Lassie is a very affectionate little girl and would love to just sit on your lap and give you kisses all day long! She was diagnosed and treated for heartworm in March and will need a follow up blood test in October which GRFR will pay for. Lassie has no activity restrictions. You will need to keep her on heartworm preventative year round for life.
Lassie does have a patch of fur loss on her back, possibly due to a burn. The area is still sensitive to the touch but is healed for the most part. Unfortunately her missing fur will not grow back, but given her luxuriously full and fluffy coat, it is hardly noticeable! The poor baby has been through quite an ordeal, whatever happened to her! The vet adored Lassie and wished that she could bring her home herself!
Lassie will do best in a home where she is the only dog so she doesn't have to share her treats or your affection. We don't have any feline friends or kids so we're not sure how she is with them. She walks nicely on a leash and is very alert, watching everything that goes by! She loves to be with her people and will follow you wherever you go. She doesn't seem to know any commands yet but we are working on "sit" for starters. She has superb house manners!
Sweet Lassie will make a wonderful devoted companion --and lap warmer -- for a lucky family!
