My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Angus came to rescue when his family moved to another state and couldn’t take him along with them. He takes his time getting to know people, but sometimes the deepest connections are those that develop over time. If you don't mind, he would like to join you in bed and rest his little head on the pillow.

AGE: 6 years
SIZE: 27 lbs. - he’s a little overweight and could lose about 3 lbs.
TEMPERAMENT: Angus is reserved at first and will look for a spot to hang out behind a chair or under a bed until he settles into the routine. He will also look for a place to hide if something frightens him. Once he's adjusted, Angus likes to hang out wherever you are, and is playful with his person. He gets really excited when his foster mom talks to him in high pitched obnoxious voices! He seems to be a homebody, prefers being inside over outside, prefers staying home over going places. He's independent, yet sensitive, so he might benefit from an obedience class so he understands what is expected of him as well as his boundaries.
FENCE: A secure physical fence (vinyl, wood or chain link), with secure gates and with direct access from the house is required.
DOGS: Angus plays a little with the other dogs (Standard Poodles) in his foster home and lived with Shelties previously, but it appears he can do just as well without them so could also be someone's one and only. He can be a little protective with food with other dogs, so his foster mom feeds him separately without issues.
CATS: Angus is fine with cats.
KIDS: Angus would be fine with older children who would respect his space. Angus is a bit grabby about getting food (he's a Sheltie - he likes his food), so is not suited for a home with young children.
HOUSE-TRAINED: Yes
CRATE-TRAINED: Angus does not enjoy being in a crate while in the house. Angus can be trusted to have free roam of the house when his foster family is not home.
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Medium. Angus is calm most of the time and is content to stay home. He will bark when he is excited about something or if someone is coming or going, but he settles back down quickly.
LEASH MANNERS: Angus walks on a leash, but he prefers to be at home.
TRAINING: Angus likely has not had formal training. He is food-motivated and would probably be easy to train in a positive obedience class.
CAR RIDES: Angus rides quietly in his crate in the car, but he prefers to be at home.
BARKING: Angus barks when he is somewhere he doesn’t want to be, if he’s outside and wants to come in, or when he’s excited. He usually has a good reason to bark and is not a nuisance barker.
HEALTH ISSUES: No known health issues.

Angus is a very easy keeper, and he does not ask for much from his people. Once he comes out of his shell, he will be very affectionate and cuddly, and he enjoys being with his person. He has come a long way in his foster home and is showing he has a wonderful personality.

For more information on our adoption process (which includes an application, references and a home visit prior to meeting dogs) or to see other Shelties available for adoption, please visit our website at www.mnsheltierescue.org, or contact us for the adoption application. Angus's adoption fee is $250.00, and he is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative (during heartworm season), had a dental, is microchipped, has been bathed and brushed, etc. All of our dogs are indoor dogs and are not to be left outside unattended (not even in a fenced yard, if the adopter is not at home).

If you are interested in fostering a Sheltie and have a fenced yard, please email foster@mnsheltierescue.org. Please note that we are an all-volunteer organization, and we respond to inquiries as quickly as we can.

***The Sheltie's bio explains the type of home that will best meet that Sheltie's needs, and indicates if a fence is required, and whether the Sheltie can be placed with children, dogs or cats. Please note that we cannot guarantee the availability of the Shelties in our program, and that our priority is to meet the needs of the Shelties in our care.***
