My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Adoption Pending . . .

Candie is pretty Beagle girl who sadly found herself homeless and out on the street. She was picked up by Animal Control and taken to the local dog pound but nobody ever called about a missing Beagle. Fortunately, she found her way into rescue and is now in a foster home. Candie is a laid-back, gentle dog, approx. 4 yrs. old, current on routine vaccinations, heartworm neg. (on preventative), crate trained, and housetrained too. She is a smart, well-behaved girl who knows basic commands such as "sit" and "roll-over" and will even shake paws with you! Candie is overweight, but it's really not her fault. She has a condition called hypothyroidism that was never treated. That was very irresponsible and neglectful on her previous owner's part! In addition to taking daily medication, Candie is on a diet and getting lots of exercise and has already lost a few pounds. Soon she'll look and feel much better and much happier too!

As her name implies, Candie is a sweet and affectionate girl who would make a wonderful walking partner and loyal companion. She enjoys attention but isn't pushy about it. She really loves to be around people. Candie is uninterested in cats and although she gets along with other same-size dogs she would be quite content to be an only pet. Candie will need to be on thyroid supplementation for life but the medication is inexpensive (less than $10 per month). She certainly deserves the chance to find a loving forever home and enjoy a happy, healthy life.

Additional Notes: Candie is not at a shelter where you can go to meet her. All Safe Hounds Beagles are cared for in loving foster homes. Prospective adopters MUST submit an adoption application prior to meeting our dogs. Please click here to read our adoption guidelines and to download our application.

We currently have several 'special needs' dogs in our care. Please consider helping us so that we may continue to help them by making a donation. We have many mouths to feed and are always in need of dog food and other items from our wish list as well as your financial support to help us care for our foster dogs.
