Here's what the humans have to say about me:

DUKE 5 years old 6 lbs Fostered in Boynton Beach

UPDATED BIO 07/29/2012: Duke is an adorable little yorkie-poo who is 5 years old and weighs only 6 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL. Duke is very playful and loves to wrestle – his wrestling buddy Kuddy was recently adopted and Duke is very sad and depressed, so he really needs a home with another doggie companion close to his size and age to play with. Duke would run like the wind with Kuddy and Beamer (also recently adopted) through the house, jumping on each other, and then fly through the yard like a lightning bolt. He has the cutest smile--he lifts his top lip and shows his top teeth--it is a real grin……..so adorable! Duke is very frightened of storms and fireworks - the 4th of July is his least favorite holiday.

Foster Mom says that Dukie is the sweetest little boy; when she picks him up, he will roll over and extend his little body so she will give him his belly kisses. He does better in a car if someone holds him--he is afraid of crates and will get car-sick for sure. Duke is very small and fits nicely on the seat with FM whenever she works at her desk. If Duke feels that he is being overlooked or not receiving enough attention, his feelings get hurt. He is very sensitive and needs a lot of reassurance of love. His eyes are very expressive and you can see his reactions easily. He just wants to be loved. He just wins your heart when he gives you his sad eyes. Dukes’ two little foster buddies have been adopted, and he is wondering why he was left behind……………do you have room in your home for this little munchkin?

UPDATED BIO 05/21/2012: Duke is an adorable little yorkie-poo who is 5 years old and weighs 6 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL. Foster Mom has to give him belly kisses or he gets sad. Duke has a sad history with little kids that abused him--so no young kids, cats, birds or reptiles. Duke will not go near the door in rainy weather--he hates the rain. He was so frightened during a bad thunder storm that he was standing frozen in position---poor little guy he was almost in a trance. FM picked him up and he quivered for 2 hours. Storms with thunder and lightening really frighten this little fella big-time. He is not doing as well as the others with house training, but he is so small and the floor is tile that his little spots just take 1 paper towel square. He has the biggest smile--he shows all of his teeth--it is crazy cute. He does like his meals served on time and if they are late--he lets FM know. He sleeps nicely through the night; he will only bark if one of his brothers barks. He loves his plush toys that squeak. Duke is a big wrestling fan--for hours he wrestles with Kuddy and Beamer. Doesn’t he sound like a cool little fella that you would love to adopt?

UPDATED BIO 03/28/2012: Duke is an adorable little yorkie-poo who is 5 years old and weighs 6 lbs; he is being fostered in Boynton Beach, FL. Foster Mom calls him "My Little Dukie Boy". He just had his dental and kept all of his teeth – hooray! - he shows off his pearly whites by smiling – too cute! Duke dances around with big smiles, with hopes that showing off at the baby gate will get him into the kitchen. Foster Mom says she just can't say no after his ‘show’. Duke will get on FM’s lap and throw himself backwards so she will give him belly kisses. Duke is so playful; he plays fetch, tug-of-war with his fur- brothers and he also plays run-after-and-jump-on his fur brothers. He loves them so much that he is forever giving them kisses. He is great during baths……BUT, he doesn’t do so well in the car; he is not a travelin’ kinda doggie. He gets car-sick (poor fella) -- really sick within the first mile out of the driveway. Duke is a ‘talker’, so FM feels that a condo or apartment will not be a good fit, because he is going to give a voice to help out any other doggie barking, or will talk to his person or anyone. Duke is improving on his housetraining – but not quite perfect – yet. But his personality is A+ - don’t you want him for your little doggie companion?

UPDATED BIO 02/07/2012: Duke is an adorable little yorkie-poo (we still don't see much poodle in him?). Foster Mom says that he is very playful, running at high speed through the yard chasing foster dogs Kuddy & Fargo, trying hard to keep up with the bigger guys. His gluten-free diet has totally eliminated the paw-chewing he had when he arrived at his foster home. FM reports that he has the best GRIN ever – he smiles with all his teeth showing – so adorable! He is just as in love with the other dogs as he is with people. He will walk backwards on his hind legs, while grinning – how cute is that?! Just looking at Duke makes everyone smile and melts your heart. He loves to have visitors come in the front door – he rolls over for belly kisses. All you have to do is say….”Duke, do you want belly kisses?.......” and he goes belly-up! His housetraining is coming along nicely……FM says that he is a totally awesome little fella! Are you looking for a companion like Duke? He’s waiting on you……………

UPDATED BIO 01/28/2012: Duke will be 5 years old on April 10th; he is an adorable 6 lb yorkie-poo, who loves kisses and rolls over for belly rubs. Although you can’t see much poodle in him, his surrendering owner stated that she keeps his hair in a puppy cut because when it grows longer, it gets curly like the poodle hair and mats easily. Duke was 7-8 months old before he was purchased at a puppy store, and had lived in a tiny little box all that time. Poor little fella!

Duke didn’t adjust well to his former family as it has gotten larger, and would act out by pottying in the house. He was a Mommy’s Boy and Mommy was too busy with babies to give Duke the attention he needed and deserved. He really craved her attention and when she was unable to give to him, his behavior grew worse. He would get out of their fenced-in yard and run out the front door the first chance he got, probably to seek the attention he didn’t feel he was getting at home, sort of like a human kid would do. His owner started crating him at night and when they were away from home.

It is felt that Duke needs some consistency in his housetraining – currently, he doesn’t ‘communicate’ to his people that he has to go out, but that will change in time. The prior owner put a bellyband on him and he did stop pee-peeing in the house and still goes outside to do this, but then began pooping on the floor. With consistency and positive reinforcement, Duke is doing a bit better on this, and his foster parents will continue to work with him. Duke’s perfect home would be one with an older couple or a single female with no children. Although the previous owner said that because Duke likes to be the center of his person’s universe and the “King of the Castle, we initially thought he should be placed in a home with no other pets; however, in the foster home, he loves the other dogs! He and foster dog Kuddy play soooo much that they get tired, rest a few minutes and then go right back to wrestling. So Duke can be placed in a home with one other dog (NO CATS!) that is close to his size and age. NOTE: Because of Duke’s size, he can only be placed in an adult home – no children!

Duke is highly allergic to fleas since he has very sensitive skin. Groomer uses Zyomox Shampoo & Conditioner and bathes him 2x a week. He also has a sensitive tummy as well. NO table scraps! Only a premium brand dry dog food; Foster Mom is currently feeding him gluten-free food and that seems to suit him. Because the children in the home weren’t old enough to understand how to play with Duke, he will nip at small children thinking that they may hurt him, pick him up, or pull his ears. He has also nipped at men, as well. It takes Duke a while to warm up to new people. With consistent training in his foster home, he should overcome these issues. All Duke wants to do is adore his 'person' - could that be you?

01/22/2012 INITIAL BIO: MEET DUKE! He is a 4 y/o 6 lb yorkie poo - he just came into rescue, so please check back for more info on this little fella. NOTE: Duke cannot go into a home with children under the age of 12 y/o.
