My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sally came to us in 2001 at about 6 months old. She is about 2 - 2 1/2 years old in these pictures taken December 2003. Sally was rescued by some adults at a kids' camp next to where she was living. They witnessed her being beaten by some children at the home and the parents doing nothing about it. Because of that, Sally is scared of everything. She is, however, very loving and a bit shy. Sally needs to go to a home where the children are 12 and older. We do not know how she would respond to children or cats, but she does get along with other dogs.

Sally is so STARVED FOR ATTENTION. When a volunteer is cleaning her kennel, she tries so hard to get the person's attention so that she can get some loving. Sally loves to give kisses and be petted. Sadly the volunteer only has time to give her a few minutes of his/her time before moving onto the next kennel. Sally looks so sad when the volunteer leaves.

Sally is a very gentle, loving, quiet girl who would love to be a lap dog and just sit quietly on or near her person. She is afraid of just about everything and everyone at first. We do not believe that she has a mean bone in her body. However, we do not want to put her in a stressful situation knowing that she is a scardy cat and that she does cower at load noises, hides when there is a lot of commotion, and doesn't like change much. Sally is now 5 - 5 1/2 years old and would do best in a quiet setting where there isn't a lot of commotion and not much change. We do believe that the change into a new home would be a little hard on her at first. However, once she got into the right home, she would adjust and she would absorb the attention like a sponge. She would truly blossom.

Can you give her the attention and show her the kindness she so deserves?

Adoption Requirements
-Completed adoption application
-Payment of the adoption fee (Fee will be held for 7 days.)
-Fenced in yard for anyone adopting a dog. An underground fence is not considered a fence.
-If adopting a cat, the adopter must agree that the cat will stay indoors all the time as all of our cats are strictly inside cats.
-Personal Reference
-Veterinarian Reference
-All dogs and cats in the household must be spayed/neutered
-Home visit
-If renting, a copy of the Landlord/Lease Agreement stating that pets are allowed, what type of pets, size of pets are allowed and how many pets allowed. If a pet deposit is required, proof that the deposit has been paid is also required.

Everyone who volunteers at the shelter works full time and it takes us 3 - 5 business days (Monday - Friday days) to process applications. The volunteers have to fit the calls in during their lunch break and breaks (and sometimes we cannot take breaks during one of those days). Not all of the time do we get the personal reference or the veterinarian the first time. They may be busy and ask us to call back.

Please be patient and understand that we all do this as a labor of love and do not get paid, including the director, for doing what we do.

Priority will be given to local adoption applications. Rarely do we adopt out to anyone in another state unless it is just over the state line like Missouri or Oklahoma is from us (about 50 - 60 miles or within a 1 hour drive). With the small, prissy dogs, because we receive so many applications, we will not be adopting out of state.

NOTE: Adoptions are not done on a first come, first served basis.
Several applications may be taken and processed before an animal gets adopted. This is especially true on the small dogs. Our goal is to find the best home for the animals in our care. Thank you for your understanding. We would be happy to mail, fax or e-mail our application to interested parties.

Adoption Fees

Dogs - $60.00; $75.00, if 25 pounds or under; and $100.00, regardless of size, if the animal is a pure breed.

Cats - $50.00 or $65 if they have been FIV/FELV tested.

Adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, all or some of the shots, and micro chipping.

NOTE:
There are times that Adoption Fees are more than what is shown here because of special circumstances such as we had to pay to rescue the animal to save it or it needed a lot of veterinary care. The Adoption Fee will be shown in the animal's bio.
