My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Samson is a 3 year old neutered black male who weighs 62 pounds. He knows some commands including sit, down and come. He pulls on a lead but does better with an EZ Walk harness. He is both house and crate trained. He likes to be petted and hang out with you. He likes to retrieve but doesn't always drop it unless you show him that you have something else good to throw. Approved for kids aged 8+.

Samson can be a couch potato at times! See ~ http://youtu.be/dPWLHOSwIfc

Update from foster home (11/02): Samson loves fetch and he will play as long as you keep throwing the ball. He knows give, sit, down, and shake. He is energetic and enjoys hikes and walks. He does best with a harness. When he is playing, he can get excited and can be mouthy. Samson loves attention and loving.

Samson is a great dog and is eager to please his human. He loves to be showered with love, kisses and belly rubs. He gets excited at walk time and meal time, but will sit and wait when asked. He is a typical 3 year old, and he can get rambunctious when playing but he will stop when asked. He is smart and has great focus if food or tennis balls are involved. He can easily catch a tennis ball and will focus on the ball with his whole body until it is thrown. He will release the ball when another is at the ready, and I can also take the ball from his mouth if I use gentle hands and a calm voice. He can live with another dog but doesn’t like to share his food or toys with other dogs. When we play in the yard or walk, he does not pay much attention to other dogs. Samson responds well to positive reinforcement. He is finishing a round of vetalog, a steroid, and his skin and coat look much better. Once he has had his walk, he likes to relax on the sofa. He is perfectly house trained and he does not require a crate.

Update from foster home (9/21): On the way home, Samson found a dog toy in the back of my car and was happy to chew on that. He is easy on the leash, front clip harness, and loves his walks. When I get home from work, he tells me all about his day while I put the harness on. Once out for a walk, he spots squirrels and such but doesn't drag me to see them. Retrieving tennis balls in the backyard is one of his favorite things to do. Samson will drop the ball as long as he knows another one is ready to throw. He stretches out frog-dog style when he's had enough and rests while chewing a tennis ball.

Samson usually sleeps on the dog beds at night, but he has started enjoying my bed. He sometimes starts on my bed and then ends up in his own bed by morning. He loves to get a good belly rub before bed and rolls over on his back so I don't miss a spot. He talks to me then, too, to tell me how good he feels. Samson is 100% house trained and easily makes a full work day. He is willing to be crated but really doesn't need it.

Samson is currently taking Cephalexin for some itching. He was willing to get in the tub to take a bath (lather, rinse, repeat) with a medicated shampoo to help with his itching. He also will wear a soft-blow-up neck collar to help keep him from licking himself.

He loves to play but he can also chill on your lap on the couch. He loves when I tell him he is a good boy! He will start slapping his tail around when you look at him and smile, and then it really goes wild when you say, ‘Who's a good boy? Samson is!!’ Samson may be best suited to being a solo dog although he is living with another dog

Update from foster home (9/05): Samson is good in the house when left for the day. He likes to run for the ball. When I eat, he comes by but will listen to sit and down. More to come as we get to know each other!
