My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

9-2-07 Adopted and on his way home to Missoula! Enjoy your new home and love the kitties, not chase them!

Loving adult!
"Hershey" is looking for a new home due to human medical issues in his previous home. He and Jaki came from the same home, love each other and it would be great if they could be adopted together but it is not essential.

Hershey is a great little dog, loves laps, sleeping with his humans and giving kisses, LOTS of kisses. He is 5.5 years old, born 11-15-01, was grossly overweight when here originally (came in at 32 hefty pounds) but is now a trim 14 pounds. He is neutered, shots current, house, crate and dog door trained, great with other dogs and cats. He and the cat in his previous home washed each others faces and were great buddies. He has the fastest tongue in the west!

(From his previous owner) Hershey is a very happy-go-lucky dog that loves everybody, but is especially fond of the people in his house and is crazy about the person who feeds him. He loves short walks, car rides, playing fetch, catching a ball, playing with other dogs that like him, racing around the house and snuggling. But mostly, he lives to eat. This is a problem!!!! Hershey will always have to be on a strict diet because by the time he was 3 years old he had been fed so much that he was 32 lbs. It took 1 1/2 years to trim him down to his ideal weight of 14 lbs and he is now a happy, healthy boy. If he ever gains even half that weight again he will have severe health problems. He doesn't know that though, so he will try every trick in the book to convince you that it's ok to feed him. He will sit up like a bunny and wave his paws at you. He will follow you around the kitchen wagging his tail and wiggling his bum, trying to tell you that it's ok to slip him a little something extra. The best thing for Hershey is to be fed one set amount of good quality dry dog food divided into two feedings per day. If you want to give him treats to reward him...well, he thinks that a small piece of carrot or broccoli is just the greatest. A walk or play session or snuggle is better.

Hershey seems to get along with all dogs and cats that accept him...BUT HE WILL EAT THEIR FOOD...and that isn't good for him!

Although Hershey will come when he is called once he has bonded to you he definately needs a fenced yard and to be on a leash and harness to keep him safe. He is housebroken but sometimes pees in the house when it is raining or if he can tell that another dog has peed in the house before him. It is best to remember to take him outside at regular times or to crate him when you aren't there to do that.

Hershey does not seem to have any current health problems but it is a good idea to keep up with his oral hygiene and discuss that with his vet. Hershey's shots are up to date but since he had an anaphylactic reaction to his last shots, get your vet's advice on how best to do the next set. Hershey should be good for a few years now anyways.

This loving, loyal, irrepressible dog needs a very responsible and experienced owner.
