Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Radar is alive today due to mix-up. We were arranging a rescue of a female doxie from a far off shelter. In one communication, our transport coordinator asked “What about the young male dachshund?” We then sent off an email to the shelter asking about him. They were very excited and said yes, we could have him too and here was his full size picture. We then found out the transport coordinator was talking about a dog in a different shelter, not about Radar, a dachshund mix. The problem is we had now looked into his eyes and felt committed (we normally scroll very fast down the thumbnail pics of all the dogs we can’t save).
Next we had to get him transported from 4 hrs away (The female we had been arranging to get ended up being adopted from the shelter). We had just about given up when again by a fluke, we found that German Shorthair Pointer rescue was transporting a dog from this shelter to within 2 miles of Radar’s foster home Radar rode the long journey uncrated in a car with a very young child and a strange-to-him female GSP. The transporter had a crate but she said Radar was such a sweetie, she didn’t feel any need to use it.
Radar has been superb with all the same size or larger dogs in his foster home. (He’s not so good with the little, pushy, food stealing mini in his foster home). He especially loves to play with a doxie male about his size. The two of them start playing chase in the yard and soon there is a long string of dachshunds running at full speed after them. Radar would love a new home with a playful dog to continue his romps with.
In foster care, Radar has discovered toys and most importantly to him, how to play fetch. He loves to have the ball thrown for him. He has also discovered the leash means wonderful things.
Radar has one of the most expressive faces we have come across. He also has a special talent. He can, if motivated, stand both his ears up, hence his name. When he gives you his special look and lifts his ears, it’s pretty darn adorable.
Radar is working on growing back the hair he lost due to a flea allergy. (he was infested with fleas when he was picked up as a stray). He especially likes the fish oil he is eating as part of his treatment.
Radar is crate trained, neutered, vaccinated, and micro chipped.
