Axel's Story...
** This is a complimentary listing for an owner looking to rehome their dog. He is not part of Canine Candor dog rescue. **

Hello, my name is Axel. I will be two years old on February 25th and I weigh 65 pounds. I am looking for a loving forever home. I am very loyal to my family. I was rescued from some very mean people who wanted to make money off of me by wanting me to fight. They did not care at all about me and my feelings. They burned me with cigarettes, broke my ribs, hit and kicked me. They butchered my ears too. This was all in the first year of my life.

Since I was lucky enough to be rescued from that horrible situation, I have been living with a family that has taken very good care of me. I am healthy, got all my shots, and was recently neutered (not my choice but my family insisted and since they love me, I reluctantly complied).

Unfortunately, my current family cannot keep me long term so we are trying to find someone who will love me as much as they do. I am very energetic; love to go on walks (I walk very well if I do say so myself), play ball (don’t always want to drop it but I can get better if you help me), play tug-a-war, and love the water. I can even do tricks for you. I will hold a ball on my nose until you say “okay” and then I pop it up in the air and catch it. I will also shake; left then right then up high. I like to army crawl as well. My owner will play with me with a bone across the floor…she says I look like a big cat while chasing it. Lol. Oh yeah, I really like hugs too. I like to ride in a car and am very well behaved as I will either lie down in the back seat or stick my head out the window (usually a mixture of both).

I am completely house trained. I know how to use a doggie door, but if there is not one available I will sit by the door to let you know I need to go potty. If you are not paying attention and I really, really need to go, I will let out a little wine to get your attention. I am not crate trained but I will not chew or destroy anything in the house. I have a bed I sleep on every night and when I take naps.

I currently live with a female Pit bull and we get along wonderfully. I have not been aggressive with other dogs but am not around too many others. I have never been around cats so I am not sure how I would react to them. I have been around children of all ages and am very good with them. The only thing I can say is that I am very protective of my family and home. I do not like someone knocking or ringing the door bell and will bark at them. I am sure if you help me learn my manners with this, I will be a wonderful part of your family. I do ask that you play with me a lot and are willing to work with me to help me learn the rules of your home. I would prefer to be the only animal so I can take advantage of all the love and attention you are willing to give me.

One thing to remember, I am a dog that was abused so if you are willing to help me feel secure and safe, I will make you proud. Training and working with me to get over my fear of strangers would make me the perfect companion.

Please email with any questions or to set up a meeting!

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Axel, a Greeley American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier for sale in Greeley, or seeking a American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier dog from a breeder in Greeley.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Greeley already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Greeley breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier breeders who help with American Staffordshire Terrier/American Pit Bull Terrier rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Greeley paves the way for another one to be saved.
