My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated Bio- 11-18-2013. Ginger is eleven years old and weighs about 12 pounds. She is being fostered in Ashland city Tennessee.

Ginger is a delightful Yorkshire Terrier. She is completely enamored with her foster family, which includes mom, dad, two teenage boys and even grandma who stops by weekly for visits. Ginger also gets along well an adores her three foster doggie sisters. ( Ginger doesn't seem to like cats). Ginger is completely house trained and will alert you when she wants to go. She is up to date on all her shots and has been micro chipped and spayed. Ginger is patiently waiting for her forever home. Do you have extra space in your home and heart for her?

Update 09/7/2013: Ginger is eleven years old and weighs 12.8 pounds. She is being fostered in Ashland City, Tennessee.

Ginger has a few words to say..Hi everybody!! I am wonderful!! I am a very happy and loving girl with lots of energy to explore and play! I absolutely adore toys and love to play tug a war with my foster doggie sisters. We have tons of fun with each other. Outside time is the best!! It is full of adventure!! I can stay outside exploring for hours, but only if my foster family is with me. Wouldn't be fun by myself. I am still searching for my "Forever Family". I am hoping I can find one to spend the upcoming Holiday's with. I posed real pretty for my new picture foster mom took today just for my new family to see. I will shower my forever family with tons of love and affection! Do you have room in your heart for me???

UPDATED BIO 8/6/2013: GINGER is 11 years young and weighs 12.8 lbs; she is being fostered in Ashland City, Tennessee.

Ginger is doing GREAT in her foster home!! She is a very happy and energetic yorkie who loves to be cuddled and petted all the time. She also adores her squeaky toys and loves to play with her foster doggie companions. Although Ginger is very settled in here, she is still searching for a forever home to call her own.

An ideal home for Ginger would be one where someone is home most or all of the time. She gets along well with other small dogs, but does not like cats. She is house-trained and eats prescription dog food because of a history of bladder infections, and will need to continue on this prescription food for the rest of her life. She likes the food and it is very affordable. A fenced-in yard would be great for Ginger because she loves to hang out and soak up the sunshine, with supervision, of course. Ginger is a very smart and loving girl who still needs that special forever home. Could your home be a good fit for Ginger?? NOTE: Please please don’t turn away from this sweet girl because of her age. She acts much younger than her 11 years and is a happy and healthy little girl who loves both people and animals. Humans age, too, and we still need to be loved; it’s the same for our animal companions. Please consider adopting this precious little senior girlie!

Updated Bio 6/23/2013: Ginger is 11 years old (Dob 4-30-2002) and weighs 12.8 pounds. She is being fostered in Ashland City, Tennessee.

Hello everyone! Ginger here. I have been feeling great and loving life! My foster family has been giving me so much love and care. They are the best! Foster mom tells me I still need a forever home, though, I kind of understand. I REALLY like it here and I am very comfortable. I eat my special food everyday and play with my foster doggie sisters. I am housetrained and I absolutely love going outside! I have so much fun exploring and chasing birds or rabbits! When foster mom comes home from work, we hang out by the pool or go watch my foster kid brothers play baseball. I really love going places! Foster mom and dad tell me that I am very smart. I tell them what I need and I also be quiet when I have to. I also sit if they tell me I need to. I love to sleep in my own bed in my foster kid brothers room, but if he wanted me to I would sleep in his bed with him. I have been feeling so good since United Yorkie Rescue took me in and took care of all my medical needs. I really adore meeting new people. I have been thinking a lot about a "forever home" since my foster mom told me I needed one. I would really like to stay in one place for the rest of my life. I have lots of love and attention to give. Could your home be the place for me??

Updated Bio 4/25/2013 GINGER is 11 years old (dob 4-30-2002) who weighs 12.8 pounds; she is being fostered in Ashland City, Tennessee.

Ginger has healed completely from her surgery to remove two mammary tumors. She has been very happy and energetic since having her stitches removed. Ginger is house-trained and loves to go for car rides and play with toys, especially those that squeak! Ginger is on a prescription diet for life because she is prone to bladder infections. She doesn't seem to mind; its so yummy she eats it right up. Ginger gets along great with her foster doggie sisters. She loves to snuggle and play with each one of them. She seems to want to chase her foster cat brother and bark at him when she sees him, so we are not too sure if she is fond of cats. Ginger loves to sleep with her foster kid brother. She gets right up beside him and snores away. Ginger also is a little vocal, she likes to tell you when she wants to go potty or is hungry and she will even tell you when she wants to play. The good thing is if you want her to be quiet all you have to do is say so and she will be quiet on command.

Ginger loves the outdoors and loves to explore. A yard with a fence would be great for her! Ginger doesn't really like to be left alone, so a home where someone will be home most of the time or there is another small dog would be ideal. Ginger is a true sweetheart and a joy to be around. Could she be that special dog companion for you? Please don’t turn away from Ginger because of her age – she still has a lot of love and playtime left.

Update 03/20/2013: Ginger is being Fostered in Ashland City, Tennessee. She has been a very busy doggie since our last update! Ginger went back to the vet for her yearly shots. She also received her microchip. Her surgery to remove her mammary tumor was this morning, it went well. The vet discovered another tumor while removing the first one and went ahead and removed it as well. Ginger also had her teeth cleaned and had to have three pulled. She is home now with her foster family and is doing very well. She had her supper and is resting comfortably in her bed. Ginger is scheduled for a follow up visit with the vet on April 8th. In the meantime, she will be getting lots of rest and continued love and support from her foster family.

Update 02/25/13: Ginger is 10-1/2 years old and weighs 12.5 lbs; she is being fostered in Ashland City, TN. Ginger is doing wonderful!! She is feeling good and it shows! She may be 10 1/2 years old, but she doesn't act like a senior citizen. She loves to play with any toy that she can squeak and absolutely loves balls! She will grab at it with her paws and roll it around with her nose. She also enjoys speaking to you and lets you know how excited she is to see you. She is housetrained and truly loves being outside. She especially enjoys soaking up the sun.

Ginger is getting along very well with her foster dog sisters and loves her foster human brothers and parents. Ginger is on prescription food from the vet and will always need to stay on it to keep her urinary tract healthy. That's OK with Ginger because it is so yummy she eats it right up! Ginger goes back to see the vet on March 4th to make sure her bladder infection is healed, then she will also receive her annual vaccinations; the vet will also schedule an appointment to remove her mammary tumor. Once all those things are completed, Ginger will be ready for her forever home! If you are looking for a sweetheart to love, and who will love you unconditionally, then Ginger is the girlie for you!!!

Update 2-19-2013: Ginger is being fostered in Ashland City, Tennessee. She was taken the the vet within hours of being surrendered because she was very sick. After running several tests, the vet determined that Ginger had a massive bladder infection. She was given an antibiotic shot and was sent home with more antibiotics to take and she is already on the road to recovery. The vet also noticed a that she has a mammary tumor which will be removed as soon as she is well enough. Ginger is scheduled for another checkup in two weeks. As soon as the bladder infection heals, she will be fully vaccinated and will receive a microchip. Ginger is a sweet, smart girl who is housetrained and loves to be with her people. She gets along well with other dogs, but we are not sure about cats yet. She still isn't feeling well, but she loves to have her belly rubbed and gives lots of kisses of appreciation. She likes to ride in the car and loves to wander around in the yard. She is not leash trained yet, but doesn't seem to interested in running off. Ginger follows her person around the yard wherever they want to go. She also likes to sleep with her person. Ginger's ideal family would be one without children under 13. We think she would also do well with someone who is home all or most of the time. She also needs a fenced in yard since she likes to roam around without a leash. Stay tuned for more details as her personality will come out more when she gets to feeling better.
