Velvet's Info...

I am a special needs pet, rideable, up to date with shots, and good with kids.

Velvet's Story...
Velvet is a Clydesdale Cross mare (specific breeding is unknown). She is a 15-17 yr old mare and is approximately 16.2-16.3.
Velvet VERY sweet mare, scared of people until she get to know and trust you. I feel Velvet is a special needs horse, emotionally. She will start shivering her bottom lip because she is so afraid of strangers. With the right human she Would make a nice trail horse once she bonds with that person. She does ride, with a little patience needed.

Additional info from volunteer currently working with Velvet:
I have been working with Velvet on basic ground skills and interacting with her as much as I can so I can get her use to being handled. We go through a routine each time I work with her and she has quickly become adapted to it and seems to enjoy it! She has come a long way and has really opened up to me, as I have shown her she can trust me. I groom her and make sure to touch her all over her body and she has become comfortable with this also. She still shakes a little bit when I start working with her, but after about 10 minutes into the lesson she relaxes and all of that stops. We have put a rider on her before and she accepted her, but she did experience her nervous shaking until she got use to having someone on her back. Velvet is a very sweet girl and is going to be a wonderful addition to her new family.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Velvet, a Waleska Clydesdale/Percheron was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Clydesdale/Percheron for sale in Waleska, or seeking a Clydesdale/Percheron from a breeder in Waleska.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Waleska already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Waleska breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Clydesdale/Percheron breeders who help with Clydesdale/Percheron rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Waleska paves the way for another one to be saved.
