My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Big sweetheart, looking for love

My name is Mayah and I’m a 2 year old fawn Great Dane. I came to Forever Friends from a shelter in late March. I’m quite confused as to why I was given up so I’m trying to stay real close to humans now! I suffered from something called “happy tail” when I first came into rescue. It has healed but I might get another sore because I wag my tail ALL the time! I’m current on all my vaccinations and have been spayed and I’m working on those things humans call “commands.” I’m trying to learn sit, down, stay and to walk on a leash. These are all new to me! I’d like to go to a class where they teach me these things….will you take me??

I’m a really big sweetheart and I love hugs and kisses, I really like to be part of a family! I like to play outside in the yard and a lot of times the neighbors think there is a deer running through my foster family’s yard….I really have them fooled! I don’t really like to play outside by myself though, I’m happier when my foster family is out there watching me. I’m kind of a show off and want them to see how great I am but I’m also a little scared I’ll be left alone again. My foster family puts a Thundershirt on me and it is helping me to calm down, I really like to wear it. I’m learning that humans have things to do and they have to leave me but they will come back in a short time. I just wish I could go everywhere with them! I’m so scared they may never come back, just like before. My foster mom says I suffer from separation anxiety and she is working with me on it. I know I will overcome my anxiety once I learn to trust and love my family.

Because I haven’t been trained, I don’t know how big I am. I’m a girl so I think I’m cute and dainty but I guess I’m bigger than I think! I can play with other dogs if I have met them properly. Sometimes I do get jealous of them and try to be a little dominant. I want all the human love for myself so I need some socialization work! Cats are too small for me and I don’t understand them. I want to chase them so for now, I think I’d like a home without those confusing cats.

Oh, I guess I should tell you, some smells really tickle my nose! My foster mom was taking some color off her nails and the stuff she used was really smelly! I walked in the room, sneezed 3 times and pawed at my nose to get that smell out of there! The smell didn’t go away so I just threw the couch pillows up in the air and buried my head in the blankets and pillows until she was done! I wish she would use stuff that smelled like chicken from now on!

I would really like to get settled into my forever home. I want to be shown everything will be ok and I’ll have a family who will love me forever. I want my new family to take me to training and teach me how to be a dog. I guess a lot of puppies get to do that but I didn’t have that chance. Will you give me a chance now?

Hugs and cuddles,

Mayah
