MEET "ELSA" - NEEDS FOSTER OR ADOPTER

Note: Elsa is located in the San Rafael area. Transport can be arranged to the Sac area for an approved adopter or foster.

Pretty Elsa is a sweet young girl that we think may be a Sighthound mixed with possibly a Herding breed. She is about 2yrs old and has a nice manageable medium build, weighing about 50lbs.

Elsa is mellow when she is comfortable in her surroundings, is easy to keep around in the house, and is not a big barker (will alert bark only - so a great "doorbell" in a rural home). She will play bow and is content to play with her toys to entertain herself. She is super sweet with all humans and enjoys lots of attention from adults and kids - she loves to get belly rubs and will give you kisses if you will let her (although her kisses can turn into nibbles because of her herding traits, so older kids only is best). She just wants to be near you and be your loyal companion. She loves to ride in the car and is even mellow while waiting in the car for you to do errands etc. She crates very well and likes it as her own "den", and can be left alone in a secure place if needed, after exercise.

Elsa is by no means an aggressvie dog, but does have a huge preydrive to animals (a great mouser ), which seems to extend to strange dogs. Due to her past life experiences, she gets very nervous around other dogs and worries they will attack her. (Sadly she was found as a stray, abandoned in a Southern California desert where she had to compete for food. She was picked up July 4th when the fireworks scared her, and ended up in a high kill facility. No one came to get her out in time, so Dog Shack stepped up to save her and give her a second chance at life.) She does get used to dogs around her and has traveled in a van full of dogs and gone on a pack hike with a trainer (who can provide more info on her).

We think for her sake, she would do best in a very low stimulus, rural home with a nice fenced yard (though she is not the runaway type), where she will not have to deal with any other dogs and no cats or small pets. She is really happiest lying on a sunny porch, playing some fetch, collecting her toys, chewing rawhides, and getting lots of cuddles and hanging out near her humans.
Elsa has been stuck in boarding and she would LOVE to have even a longer term foster, or better yet a home to call her own, in a rural place with a fenced yard. She will be a great, low maintenance companion for an elderly person/couple, or could also be fine with a family with kids (she was temporarily fostered with a 5yr old and did fine). What Elsa needs most is a home filled with love, patience and understanding that will accept her for who she is, and can help show her that the world is not such a scary place.
