My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This hotel has great hospitality!

That is what Gus thought as he hung around the Hotel del Coronado, dining with some of the workers. Gus showed up one day the hotel and charmed his way into their hearts…and lunches.

Gus is extremely social and easy going and the workers came to know and care for him. But, they worried that he would be in harm’s way with all of the cars and trucks coming and going so they brought him into the Coronado Animal Care Facility.

It turns out that Gus is a lap cat – he just can’t resist a lap whenever someone sits down and he is willing to stay there as long as you will sit. As you pet him, he allorubs and head butts in appreciation.

In addition to being a very friendly cat, he is intelligent, inquisitive and adapts quickly to new situations.

Gus was already neutered when he arrived at the ACF. This fact combined with his wonderful personality tells us that he did have a loving family at one time.
-
He has tested positive for FIV – Antech Diagnostics indicate that this may be due to being infected with the FIV virus or due to his having been vaccinated with the FIV vaccine.

FIV is only transmitted to other cats and then only be a deep bite wound – this usually occurs when an un-neutered male tom cat bites another cat.

Gus is in a temporary foster home and is looking for either for someone to adopt him or to foster him long term.

His foster mom has this to say about him:

“Gus is VERY affectionate, likes laps and naps. He cuddles on one side of me, with Smoki (the cat she adopted from PAWS) on the other, for our reading and Sudoku hour everyday.

He is a ravenous eater, loves treats and will take them out of my hand, gently, gently. He rarely vocalizes and when he does it is a short “mow?” I love that little fillip of a question mark at the end.

He does not seem the least bit put off by the dogs or their barking.

And, lastly, he is a catnip addict. When I get the catnip banana out, he goes crazy with it. Eventually, I have to take it away from him or he would be rolling around endlessly around on the floor!”

Come meet Gus for yourself to see what a real charmer he is!

You can arrange to meet Gus by calling Bob, the head of the Cat Adoption Team, at 619-840-9727.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Gus you must first complete a Cat Adoption or Cat Foster Application and meet with a PAWS of Coronado Cat Adoption Counselor.
