My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

TIA has been going through a rough 2.5 years! Her former caretaker had to leave the country in a hurry, and her owner was unable to come back! She instructed an employee to take care of Tia, but the employee found out she was allergic to cats. Tia was also very stressed over being alone, so the employee was told to put Tia into a large cage… and that is where she lived for those 2.5 years! The only contact Tia had during that time was every few days when the employee would come to feed and change her litter. Tia had no real human contact or love.

A rescue friend of Tavi’s heard about Tia’s plight and went to the apartment where Tia was being kept, took Tia out of the cage and immediately brought her to the vet. Tia was generally healthy, FIV/FeLV negative, is now UTD on vaccinations, but was matted to the skin – which must have been painful for this little girl. The vet estimates Tia to be around 13 years, but she is young at heart!

She is a little kitty, and the mats were obviously bothering her. She has since been adorably shaved, as you can see from her photos! Once her beautiful hair grows back, this lovely Torbie will be even more gorgeous!

But little Tia is still traumatized from her experience… she doesn’t like being caged, understandably, and it is difficult for her to relax enough to completely trust yet. Initially, she had a little trouble adjusting to her foster home. We gave her several TTouch sessions, which she responded well to, and now, especially after getting her new “do,” Tia is coming around nicely. She still hisses a bit, but she is eating treats out of her foster’s hand and loves sitting in the window watching life in Brooklyn!

Tia is co-existing with her foster’s dog, but would be best in a home without children, with a person who is experienced with cats, who will be patient and give her lots of love. Trust has to be established again. Tia is well worth the effort. A gorgeous kitty who deserves every chance at a good home life with a forever companion… and we know Tia wants this too. She is trying so hard. Underneath the fear and trauma is a sweet, loving kitty. Please give Tia that chance she deserves – she will reward you with a lifetime of love.

All of our kittens and cats are vetted, vaccinated, tested, spay/neutered prior to adoption. And all are indoor only! If you have a serious interest in adopting, meet'n'greets can be arranged by appointment. Contact us to make an appt or for additional information.
