My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gypsy was a stray picked up by Gwinnett County Animal Control just before Memorial Day. She wasn't available to the general public for more than 2 weeks though, because they said she was "leery of men." Well, if I were a small dog surrounded by big, burly men in a scary environment like the pound, I think I'd be a little leery, too. After they worked with her some, though, she came around and became quite the social butterfly. She had been there an entire month when we came to rescue her, and boy was she happy to be free!

We estimate Gypsy to be a 4-5 year old dachshund/terrier mix. Being a little older, she's a pretty easy-going girl. Her favorite activities so far are lazing around the house, rolling on her back in the grass, and getting in some sunbathing. But she also has a very friendly, out-going personality. She's very submissive with people and does a whole body wiggle dance when you talk to her. She does seem a little more shy around men, but as we have a chance to work with her, she should learn to love them, too. She's a big kisser, so watch out! You'll get your face cleaned in her presence. With other dogs, she is more on the dominant side, but she's also a bit unsure right now, which results in her sometimes growling at them to give her more space.

She's in a foster home with 4 other small dogs, so she will learn how to coexist happily in the pack in no time. She has already had a few romp sessions with one of them and has shown an interest in toys as well. She's going to be a fun girl! All she needs is a confident human pack leader to reassure her that she doesn't have to be in charge so she can relax and enjoy the good life. Gypsy's ideal family would have a strong pack leader to give her the boundaries she needs to feel secure, but other than that I think she'd make a fantastic companion for a variety of families. Ask to meet Gypsy!
