My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Herschel – I am a handsome, 3-5 year old male German Shepherd who is one giant gentle hound of love. I LOVE people, and crave attention! I was a favorite of the staff at the Downey shelter because I am just a big loving baby, but I am “BIG” -- about 95 lbs now -- so could probably push over a small child or elderly person with my controlled but enthusiastic show of affection. I am very well tempered and very mellow for the most part. Every once in a while I might try to show my love by trying to put my paws on your shoulders – but that is just because it would be easier for you to kiss me or dance with me if I am your height! Try to pet me and I’ll roll onto my back for a tummy rub!

I am being fostered in Eagle Rock with two other German Shepherds and get along superbly with them. I walked around the Rose Bowl for the first time with my new German Shepherd foster buddy as if it was routine! But don’t let a squirrel or small dog (and I assume cat) tempt me, because my instinct is to chase. That didn’t stop me from obeying my foster when walking on a leash, because I just want to please everyone! I’m so smart, I’m sure I could be easily trained to do anything. I just want to please, and am very respectful of property – I’ve not had one accident inside, and found the pooping area outside immediately! I have all my shots, and I am microchipped and neutered.

I could easily be in a one-dog family, because the more attention the better! But I do love playing with other dogs as well, preferably larger dogs, so just let me know what you expect of me and I will adapt – just take me home to love!!! My foster family would love to keep me, but they already have a full house!
