My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pokey is in a foster-to-adopt situation!

On a recent trip to Chicago's Animal Care and Control we were fortunate enough to stumble across the amazing Pokey. Pokey is the most adorable mutt mix you could ever come across. Shar Pei? Bull Mastiff? Bull dog? Flat Coated Sharbullschnarfelhound? Who knows??? And we say "Who cares!" This is one great dog and we feel so fortunate to have found him.

Pokey is, well, a little bit pokey. He's not your crazy full-of-puppy-energy type dog. He's a sweet, mellow, tail-always-wagging, nothing-really-phases-him boy. He never makes much of a fuss and seems to just enjoy hanging out with his volunteer friends and getting lots of
scratches and kisses. Don't let his serious look fool you, Pokey is about as gentle and kind as can be. He's not a barker, but Pokey does have an interesting vocal range and can (quietly) release some pretty interesting whistles and yodels. It's very endearing! You can see him attempting his funny noises to get our photographer's attention in the second picture.

Unlike many dogs we transfer from the pound, Pokey came to us at a pretty ideal weight. He had also been neutered before making his way to ACC. Unfortunately, his skin was not taken very good care of. Pokey is very dry and itchy and we are working hard to get his coat back into tip top shape! First thing we did was give this fabulous kid a bath. And Pokey loved it. He actually fell asleep during his bath because it was so relaxing for him. During his towel dry, he made sure to give our volunteer a kiss on the nose to show how much he appreciated it. What a sweet boy!

We're still getting to know Pokey, but feel he would do great in a home with or without kids. Active family or not, we don't think Pokey would care. He does enjoy his walks and would love a home who participate in exploring the world with him. So far Pokey has passed with flying colors during dog introductions. We think he'd do fine in a home with other dogs. We have not cat tested him yet, so are unsure if a kitty cat would be a match for him. Once we learn more about this wrinkly little dude, we'll be sure to update his bio.
