My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jett is a 6 year old, purebred, male Newfoundland. He is neutered on heartworm meds and up to date on all vaccinations. He has an easy going personality with a sense of humor. Jett has been here about 2 months now. I will tell you honestly that this tall, handsome, boy, stole my heart. I think a more appropriate name for him should have been the “Bandit”. He walks into people’s lives and steals their hearts. He is great with cats, dogs, children and adults. Jett is one of 6-Newfoundland who’s owner was tragically killed in an accident in July. The other Newfs have found homes and Jett being a special needs boy is now ready to find his very special, forever home.

Jett has some limited mobility and an awkward gait. He will need a home that is not overly active and a home without young children. If you are looking for a sweet companion to be with you in the house and out in the yard then Jett would be a good Newf for you. If there are children in his new home they will need to be old enough to understand his disabilities and limitations.

Jett did have a few marking episodes the first couple weeks. All it took was me figuring out that it was my fault. (Yep, my fault.) This handsome boy is pretty smart and eager to please. He tries to do what is asked of him as quickly as possible. When we were heading to the outside door I would say “Let’s go outside and go potty.” Once outside he always received his praise when he was told “Good potty Jett.” Jett tried to please me even sooner when he started going potty the first time I mentioned it, which just happened to be on the way to the door. Now the word “potty” is only used outside and the problem seems to be solved. He even managed to pick up the regular house routines in the first two days that he was here, and picking up the house routines around here can be a little bit challenging at times with 4 Newfs and 3 cats all mingling with each other.

Jett made his big debut at Dogtoberfest. True to his nature, he was a sweetheart with every person and every dog that he met. If given the opportunity, Jett would be a social butterfly. He has visited the residents in the nursing home several times and has gone to work with me for the entire night. We have had numerous requests from residents and staff members to keep bringing him along to work.

Jett is a special needs boy. The family that adopts him will have to be dedicated to keeping his weight down since he has torn cruciates in both back knees. He does wear a set of leg braces to help stabilize his legs, and he is very gracious about having them put on and he has no problems with wearing them. Jett also has some arthritis and minor entropion that does not need surgery. His ear infections have cleared up with treatment. Jett will not have to wear the braces forever. Just until his Knees have had enough time to strengthen and heal, which will take some time. He is not in pain but he will need ongoing management for his mobility and pain the rest of his life.

Our adoption fee is $200.00. A fenced yard with a minimum height of 4-feet is required for adoption.
If you plan on submitting an application and you are out of our region, once your application is approved we require that you come to our area to meet the dog and foster family. If that goes well you will be able to take your Newfie home with you.
